Britt’s Version
As most know, I’ve been chronically single, but The Lord had an amazing story He wrote in His timing (20+ years in the making).
Nick and I met in summer 2018 while working a project at Lockheed. He was a super nice guy and a stinking smart engineer who was personable (shocking, right?); but married.
Fast forward to 2023 when I returned to the program, worked a highly strategic project, which we worked multiple months together on…lots of long days and hours. At the end of the negotiation/project, I set up a happy hour with the customer, where Nick was the only program/non-contracts person at the happy hour. The group had a really fun few hours hanging out on a Tuesday night. After happy hour, I shot my shot, emailing Nick to say thanks for coming to the happy hour and give him my number. The next morning, Nick emailed me his cell number, but forgot to write down my number….As I grew impatient on Wednesday night (not knowing he did trivia), l shot him text to the tune of “it’s Britt 🙃”…which led to 3+ hours of texting. The next day he IM’d me asking if we could go out for a drink…while I was sharing my screen with a teammate…I, of course...eventually, said yes. 2 days later we spent 4 hours at Angelos and 2+ hours on my townhouse patio around a firepit talking and getting to know each other.
The rest is history 🙃, but oh so fun and we’ve loved getting to know each other, moved me in and out of homes and hotels, travel with family, lots of cooked meals together, deep conversations and becoming best friends over the months! It may have taken years for us to be in a place where we were available and open to date coworkers, but I wouldn’t trade how the Lord grew me in those decades; just thankful Nick and I figured it out together!
Nick’s Version
We met back in 2018 at Lockheed on the program. We were working a big proposal and worked a lot. Thought she was fun but I was married at the time so it wasn’t the right time. She left the program shortly after that. We lost touch with each other. Between 2018 and 2023 a lot happened. I got divorced and moved to Roxbourgh. In April 2023 she came back to the program. I saw her in the lobby a few times checking her phone. Couldn’t quite place her then it hit me that’s Britt from a few years ago. I think I said hi in the lobby once. I also IMed her and said hey and we talked a little just kinda caught up. We then worked this big proposal for the program all summer. Tons of meetings and getting everything squared away. She helped me understand more of the business side. We finally worked through all of the negotiations and got award for the proposal. We all go out for a happy hour to celebrate and at that time I really liked her but didn’t know how to ask her for her number. We kinda flirted back and forth. The next day she sent me her number on work email said we should talk sometime. I sent her mine. Then I spaced it and never forwarded the email to my personal email. She then texted me that night while I was at trivia. We texted for like 4 hours that night. The next day we then IMd a little back and forth throughout the work day on the classified system. I was picking up some feelings on her end and also my end. Towards the end of the day I sent her: “I am sensing some signs and I could be totally off base but would you want to go grab a drink or dinner sometime?” Unbeknownst to me she had a coworker at her cube and she saw the IM and she said “Did you just get asked out on the classified system? That’s a new one!” There was like a 10 minute pause and I was thinking like oh crap when am I gonna get the HR call!!! She IMd back and said yes you are picking up the right signals. I would love to go out with you! So relieved! We went to Angelo’s Taverna for a marathon 6+ hour date.
