Brittany and I first met in the summer of 2014 on the campaign trail in Wyoming. I remember being immediately captivated by her radiance. She was smart, beautiful, driven, and had charisma that lit up the room. However, at that time, she was 18 and I was, well… older. I decided to wait and see if our paths crossed in the future. After the completion of the Wyoming campaign season, several years went by where we had no communication with one another. Finally, in the Fall of 2017, fate/Army sent me to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for five months. I remember praying to God that He place a wonderful Christian woman in my life. Minutes after that prayer, I remember picking up my phone to mindlessly scroll Facebook. The first post I saw was from Brittany Robertson… The location on the post was listed as “Waco, Texas.” I had no clue where Waco was. All I knew about Waco was the incident regarding the Branch Davidians. I quickly typed Waco into google maps: 249 miles from my location at Fort Sill. According to Army policy, I could not travel more than 250 miles from base. I was beyond grateful to be within the limit by 1 mile. I reached out to Brittany and was rather straightforward: I asked her if she was single and if she was free that weekend. She confirmed both questions in the affirmative. I made my way down to Waco that weekend and picked Brittany up on my motorcycle. Our first stop was the Dr. Pepper museum. Within minutes of being with her, I knew we had a special connection. Our next stop was Lover’s Leap. After accidentally going the wrong way on a one-way street, I quickly regained my composure and sped off to an overlook of the Brazos River. Brittany and I sat for hours just talking about life, faith, and family. We then hopped in my truck to head to dinner where we held hands and sang along to T-Swift at the top of our lungs. Note this was our first date. I remember calling my mom on my way back telling her that I found the one. Brittany was everything I wanted in a partner: compassionate, sweet, loving, charismatic, motivated, Godly… We continued to date for the next year and a half and those qualities I initially recognized in Brittany never changed. Ultimately, I mustered up the courage to pull the trigger and propose to Brittany on a hot air balloon over Napa. And, well, you guys know the rest… Brittany means everything to me, and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with her. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.
The first time I met Greyson was in the summer of 2014. We were both working on the campaign trail in Wyoming and consequently traveled to a lot of the same cities. I remember feeling a little nervous being introduced to this “older guy” I found so attractive. Fast forward almost four years and I was sitting in my living room with one of my roommates at the time. I had received a message from that same guy and asked for advice from my friends. Greyson started with some friendly chit chat and quickly moved to being a little more blunt. He asked if I was single and said he would have a few “follow up questions” if I was. When I said I wasn’t seeing anyone he asked if he could come to Waco to take me on a date and then stay in town and take me to church on Sunday. My instant thought was I haven’t seen this guy in years what if he is "weird"... After all this date was almost a full weekend commitment . My friends advised me to just say yes and tell him I was “sick” on Sunday if the date wasn’t a hit. To say the least I did not get sick on Sunday. We started our first date off with a motorcycle ride to the Dr. Pepper museum where we learned about how Dr. Pepper was invented in Waco. Next, we rode through Cameron Park and stopped at Lover’s Leap. We sat there and just caught up. It was so refreshing how comfortable he made me feel and how open we were with each other. The moment I knew I really liked Greyson was when we talked about his family on our date. He shared with me how incredible his mom was and how much he loved and respected her. He almost teared up and said he wanted to marry someone just like her. After we finished our 5 (yes, 5) hour conversation, he told me he had made dinner reservations at 3 different spots and that I could choose where we go. The whole date was incredible and he treated me nothing short of a princess. We went to church the next day and before he left he let me know he would love to come back the following weekend for another date. We went on to date for a year and a half, before Greyson flew us to Napa and got down on one knee in a hot air balloon. I am so lucky to have found the most kind, compassionate, and loving man on the planet. I can’t wait to marry my best friend and ultimate adventure partner. I choose Greyson today, tomorrow, and everyday for the rest of our lives.
We were taking a weekend trip to “San Francisco”, but little did I know that wasn’t where we were going. We arrived to Sacramento late at night and, after driving for an hour to the hotel, I didn’t even know what city we were in. Greyson told me, I had meet him in the lobby and be ready for the day by 6:15 am for a birthday surprise. We were celebrating my birthday a week late since we weren't able to be together the weekend before. In the morning, he escorted me into a white van and I had no clue what was in store. The driver asked if I had ever been to Napa before and let surprise #1 out of the bag, but I still didn't know what we were doing here. After 15 minutes, she told Greyson it was time and he proceeded to blindfold me. Once we got to the location, the driver told us to wait in the car. I was so nervous and had no clue what to expect. When we exited the car, I still had my blindfold on and all I heard Greyson say was: “Should I pick her up and put her in?” I was confused as he picked me up and put me in some sort of basket. After another minute he took off the blindfold and we were in a hot air balloon about 100 feet above the ground. He rented a hot air balloon just for the two of us to watch the sunrise and look out across the entire Napa Valley. After about an hour, we had descended closer to the ground and the guide said, “look”, and pointed to a sign that read “Will you marry me?” The funniest part of the story was I didn't know it was for me and said "Wow, G someone is getting engaged." Little did I know it was me... I turned around to find Greyson down on one knee in the balloon. He proposed in the air and then told me we had a few more surprises. When we landed, I realized he had flown our parents in to celebrate with us. After our champagne toast, we spent the rest of the day touring vineyards and enjoying the beautiful day. I could not have asked for a more dreamy and special weekend.
