Our story began over four years ago, in ways we could never have imagined. It was as if God was gently weaving our lives together.

In August 2021, my sisters, Mikayla, and Heather, and I traveled to Washington to help celebrate the wedding of a dear friend, Breanna Evoy (formerly Bassett), who was marrying Matthew’s brother, Jonathan Evoy. This was the first time the Taylors met the Evoys. Although we (Brittany and Matthew) only briefly met, we continued with our separate lives.

Matthew attended Happy convention a couple of times over the years, but it wasn’t until July 2023 that we spent time together. Even then, it was in a group setting, and our interactions were purely friendly. After the convention, Breanna asked Matthew, “What do you think about Brittany?” Perhaps that was the spark that set things in motion—who knows!

Fast forward to December 2023, Breanna spontaneously invited me to Washington for Christmas. Unsure of my holiday plans, I was intrigued but felt it might be odd to show up at an Evoy family Christmas. When Breanna extended the invitation to Heather as well, we decided to embrace the adventure and do something different for Christmas!

We had an amazing time—playing games, pickleball, and simply enjoying the company of the Evoy family. Although my intention wasn’t to see Matthew, I found myself enjoying his company during our time there.

Upon returning home, I didn’t think much of it, but by January, we started texting. What began as casual messages quickly turned into constant communication and many ‘getting to know you better’ questions. We were a bit shy initially about talking on the phone, but once we started, we couldn’t stop. Our conversations, often lasting over five hours, and quick chats during Matthew’s commute home from work, brought us closer.

About a month later, on my birthday, Matthew called to ask me to be his girlfriend!

In the following months, Matthew moved to Lubbock and got a new job. While I’d like to think I was the sole reason for his move, a desire for change, a new niece, and family in Canyon likely sweetened the decision. Over the past year, we’ve grown closer through games, evening walks with my dog Tillie, road trips, cooking, yard work, disc golf, and more. We’ve cherished every moment together.

During Thanksgiving in Washington, Matthew proposed! Surprising our friends and family with the news was incredibly fun, and the subsequent planning has been a joy.

Our story doesn’t end here; it continues as we move forward in life. We are grateful for everyone who has prayed for us individually and as a couple, and we appreciate all the support and excitement during this special time!
