Flights

AIRPORT TO TRAVEL TO: MEXMost international airports offer direct flights! We recommend setting up flight trackers to let you know when prices drop. Google Flights, Kayak, and Hopper, are great tools to track flight prices. We've found the most reasonable prices are 3-4 months out. If you're close to San Diego, we highly suggest using the CBX tunnel at the Tijuana airport for unbeatable flight prices. Travel time from the airport to the recommended neighborhoods is about 20-30 minutes, traffic dependent.

We suggest the below travel dates for wedding activities, but these are just suggestions. “Official” events kick off Friday evening, but we will be in town all week. How to get around

Uber- is the recommended mode of transportation in Mexico City. It is safe, quick, and wildly inexpensive. Uber works all over Mexico City and the surrounding area and ensures there won't be any mixups in getting to your destination. We suggest using it to and from the airport and while exploring the city. If you prefer a car service, we recommend <a href="transfeero.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">transfeero.com</a> Your Feet!- We understand that being in a new city (or country) can be intimidating, particularly when you don't speak the native language. We will say, Mexico City is very welcoming and people will help you through your Spanglish and directions, so go explore! Just like any major city, be smart and be aware of your surroundings but don't be afraid to wander and try new things. There's no other way to get to know a city!

One of the things we love about CDMX is its&nbsp;wide variety of boutique hotels. There’s really something for everyone and some of the best hotels have less than 10 rooms. We encourage our guests to branch out and support some of the smaller establishments. Below you will find a suggestion guide to the city. Even if you're not much of a planner, you'll find things to see by wandering the streets and scrumptious food just by following your nose!

Neighborhoods:

La Condesa

This is one of Mexico City's trendier areas and it's filled with lovely art deco homes, tree-lined streets, leafy parks, and bohemian chic shops, bars, and restaurants. Parque Mexico is one of the defining landmarks of the area showing many elements of a European garden, including ponds and walkways. Calle Amsterdam is the most notable street - a large tree-lined oval perfect for morning runs - marking the original hippodrome (horse race track).

Colonia Roma (Roma Norte)

Roma is known for being the epicenter of hipster culture in the city, and rivals Polanco as the center of the city's culinary scene (we prefer Roma - it's closer to La Condesa usually more affordable). Besides Art Nouveau and Neo-Classical residential houses and buildings, the neighborhood streets are lined with restaurants, bars, clubs, shops, cultural centers, churches and galleries. Along with the tree-lined streets, green spaces were also created with the addition of small parks.

Polanco

Mexico City's swankiest neighborhood, Polanco, is famous for its designer shops and upscale restaurants - many of which are situated on the fancy Avenida Masaryk. The architecture is a mix between modern buildings and old Spanish-style haciendas - and walking around in Polanco makes you feel as though you are in any other European city. If you're interested in gourmet cuisine, you will definitely want to make a reservation at Mexico City's famous Michelin-star restaurant, Pujol (start looking now as it takes a month or 2 to get a reservation). We highly recommend you watch Chef's Table episode on Enrique Olvera as it provides an insight into Mexican history and heritage as well as an appreciation for the traditions surrounding food and drink in Mexico.

Visiting the markets in Mexico City is a great way to immerse yourself in the culture. Here are some of the best markets in the city. Day trips/ Outings 

Xochimilco&nbsp;- About an hour out of the city, you can visit Xochimilco´s tranjineras, traditional narrow boats that take you through the waterways, where you can eat, drink and listen to mariachis.(4-8 hour experience)

Teotihuacan Pyramids-&nbsp;Teotihuacan is a pre-Hispanic holy city approximately an hour and a half away from CDMX. Built between the 1st and 7th centuries, the pyramids of the sun and the moon and the temple of Quetzalcoatl are the powerful structures that mark ¨where gods were created.¨(4-8 hour experience) Casa Prieto &amp; Tetelan&nbsp;- Luis Barragan is a legendary Mexican architect who has inspired much of the architecture throughout the country. Visit one of Barragan´s houses in the gorgeous Pedregal neighborhood, and have lunch at the impressive chic Tetelan restaurant directly next door.(4-6 hour experience) *All activities can be booked on Airbnb experiences*

What time should I arrive?

We were hoping you'd ask! Doors open and champagne starts flowing at 5 pm. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 pm. We ask that you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the ceremony. If Ubering, please check traffic times in advance before calling your ride.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

The wedding ceremony will take place indoors. Cocktail hour will be outdoors in the foyer, followed by dinner on the patio.

Speaking Spanish

Don't be scared to try! People are friendly and appreciate the effort. So give it a shot! We've outlined a few tools to help... Google Translate- there's really nothing you can't accomplish in the city if you have this tool on your phone. You can scan menus and translate, you can type what you're trying to say and it will show you how to say it in Spanish (or... you can show the translation to whoever you're trying to speak to, ha!). Make sure you have this gem downloaded on your phone for this trip. Duolingo- For Spanish beginners, this is a great user-friendly tool. You can download it for free and practice a variety of subjects in a casual way. This is great for vocab brush-ups and you can focus on travel, food, or anything you want!

Airport Info

Once you land, get through customs, and arrive at the luggage carousel. Note: if you need to use the bathroom after your flight I would wait until AFTER getting through customs - The customs line is sometimes long so getting a spot and getting through may be worth it. Once you are through customs and enter the baggage claim area, there are restrooms at the far end of the hall - directly opposite from where you entered. Once you have collected your bags, you can leave the airport! The exit doors are clearly marked and just to the right of the currency exchange kiosk in the baggage claim area. There is an Uber pick-up spot just through the baggage claim doors. If you prefer, there are also reliable taxi cab options.Sitio 300 is a great option that we highly recommend. At the stand, have the address of where you’re going handy and they’ll take care of the rest. Just make sure to have your receipt visible so their staff can recognize you as you approach the taxi area.&nbsp;Their cabs are usually lined up outside of the airport doors. They will most likely charge you a flat rate of $250-400 pesos (~$10-20 US).

Pesos

Most places accept cards but it's convenient to have pesos on hand for things like tips, public restrooms, street vendors, etc. We suggest exchanging at your bank before the trip. If you want to change money before leaving the airport there is a currency exchange kiosk right near the baggage claim. However, in the city, you can also use any local atm (for a small fee) and pull out money in pesos. Save the hassle- make sure you let your bank know you are traveling so they don’t freeze your card. Also, you will see the “$“ sign on all prices, but this refers to the Mexican Peso, not the U.S. dollar.&nbsp;

Some Additional Tips

Elevation: CDMX sits at an elevation of 7,382 feet. We’ve never experienced altitude sickness while visiting, but if you're prone to it, drinking lots of water tends to help. Tipping: It’s customary to tip 15% in restaurants or more depending on the service. Simply say “con quince” or "with fifteen" before the server runs your card, because there won't be an opportunity to add a tip later on, unless you have cash.
