At the end of summer 2011, Nate was going into his first year at UMD, and Brooke was about to head back down to the U of M. With only a few days left before school started, they ran into each other at a friend's house and ended up on their first date the next day. Then their second date the day after, then third. The dates were easy and natural, and both wondered why they hadn't connected sooner.

Then, just like that, school started and the conversations gradually stopped as they continued on with their other journeys.

Fast forward to summer 2016 - Nate moved down to Minneapolis and the pair of them ended up at a concert together with friends. They spent the evening catching up right where they left off five years prior, and the rest is history.

Shortly after reconnecting, they found out that during those five years apart, they each would spend time looking back on those three dates in Duluth and thinking, “...that was the one that got away.” Funny how love works out.
