Brooke and Jared matched on the app Tinder in January 2015. After a week of texting about their mutual love of Harry Potter, they met up for frozen yogurt and ended up talking for 5 hours. Although Jared moved to Detroit and Brooke to St. Louis a few months later, they kept up the calls, texts, and visits. In 2017, Brooke joined Jared in Michigan.

Jared surprised Brooke by proposing on a Labor Day weekend trip to Traverse City, Michigan. After dinner, he suggested a walk on the beach. While looking at the water, he gave her a Harry Potter wand as an anniversary gift, and asked a passerby to take their picture. Then he told Brooke he had one more present- and pulled out a ring as the stranger captured everything.

Although sad to leave the friends they’ve made over the last few years in Detroit, Brooke and Jared are excited to start their marriage back in St. Louis, where Jared has been accepted into an infectious disease fellowship at St. Louis University.
