Our Wedding

Joe was about to deploy for 6 months but had leave time, so he was able to make it to a wedding in West Virginia. Brooke was a senior in college in Florida and also was in West Virginia for the same wedding. “I remember seeing Joe show up when most people were seated and wondering who he was. After the ceremony and pictures were done my family and I were just hanging out during cocktail hour. It was around that time that my Aunt kept mentioning the cute Marine that was on the grooms side. Eventually she talked me into getting another drink and wouldn’t you know it, Joe was standing right where the drinks were. She introduced us (she had already introduced herself to him), and I shook his hand said hi and walked away. Probably an hour later and my mom caught me on my way to the bathroom and said “brooke have you talked to Joe?” And I replied saying that Aunt Katina had already introduced us. She then made me walk over and actually talk to him. We ended up talking the rest of the wedding reception but neither of us asked for the other’s number. Before he left I ran after him and said “it was really great to meet you, Joe” and I shook his hand goodnight. Thank goodness he and my mom stayed at the same hotel that weekend because she is the one that exchanged our numbers (ask her for that story) and is the reason that I was able to text Joe first. I definitely did not realize that I met my future husband that day.” —Brooke
