Cabrey and Kyle basically ran circles around each other in Colorado Springs for a year before officially meeting. The night they met, Cabrey was dressed as Chicken Joe (from the cinematic masterpiece Surfs Up) and Kyle was dressed as a biker, though Cabrey pegged him as Lance Armstrong. After their first interaction, Kyle thought Cabrey did not like him at all and they both moved on. Meanwhile, some of their mutual friends were hard at work trying to set them up. Cabreys dear friend Abby sent her multiple pictures of Kyle (while running on a treadmill), whilst simultaneously showing Kyle pictures of Cabrey. After a few more months of trying to set up an organic meeting (thank you to Noah and Abby and countless others for trying), Kyle eventually worked up the guts to text Cabrey and ask her on a date. Cabrey received the text when she was driving to the mountains with one of her best friends, Courtney. Despite Kyle’s minimal presence on social media, Courtney did some deep digging, approved of Kyle and drafted a response. The following week Cabrey and Kyle met up for their first date at Goat Patch, a local brewery they both love. After Cabrey ordered a hazy IPA, Kyle knew this was the girl for him. They had a lovely evening and decided they’d do it again sometime, after which Kyle left for a two week vacation...nice. Once he came back they went for a hike on Mount May (where they later would get engaged!) and talked the whole time about everything from their love for Survivor to their childhood pets (s/o Precious) and more. Both were a bit sad driving home knowing the date was ending, and Kyle asked Cabrey if she had any other plans (she did) and she said no. So they decided to go to one of their other favorite breweries (sensing a trend here?) and had a lovely evening chatting each others ears off. They soon started spending all of their free time together (ask Kyle about how he scheduled his PT clinic around Cabreys days), enjoying many late nights talking, lots of coffee and London Fogs, neighborhood walks, and many dinners consisting of burnt bread and eggs (sincerest apologies to Kyles braces). They’ve had many adventures since - backpacking trips (ask Kyle how far Cabrey made him walk), skiing adventures (where Cabreys family promptly tested Kyle’s abilities), hometown visits, brewery and coffee shop hangs, bread eating and baking, friends weddings, church time, exploring Cabreys new city of Denver, more skiing and hiking and sweet times with friends.
Eventually, Kyle and Cabrey decided they wanted to marry each other in August of 2023 and got engaged on October 7th, 2023. Kyle planned an entire day of all of Cabrey’s favorite things to do in Colorado Springs. They went for a nice morning walk with Copper (thanks Hobart’s) and got locked out of the house. After getting back into the house, they went down to the Old Colorado City farmer’s market (our favorite) for quiches, kombucha, and coffee at Jubilee. Funny story, but the barista asked if they were together forever and little did he know that Kyle was about to propose in the next hour. Kyle told Cabrey that next on the day they were going to go for a hike and look for some changing Aspen trees. He said that he had the perfect fall hike with plenty of trees, but in actuality there were not any. After driving down Gold Camp road, they were at the trailhead of Mt. May where they went for their second date. Cabrey had no idea what was coming. They talked and reflected on the last 8 months of dating and their relationship on the way to the top. Remembering their favorite trips, hikes, ski weekends, restaurants, and sweet memories with friends and family. As they got closer to the top of the mountain, many trees were knocked over and the trail was closed to the top. But, Kyle wanted to push on and not have the big moment ruined, so he convinced Cabrey to ignore the sign and make it to top. Once at the top, it was a perfect, sunshiny Colorado afternoon. They had the entire mountain top to themselves and Cabrey had no idea what was about to come. Within 5 minutes of being at the top, Kyle popped the question. Cabrey’s face instantly changed once she knew what this moment was and both blacked out for who knows how long. Many tears happened and Cabrey eventually ended up on her knees as Kyle was asking her to marry him. After both had realized what just happened, they read a letter that Kyle had wrote (thanks Courtney for the advice) and had an IPA from one of their favorite breweries. Eventually they hiked back down and had ice cream from Josh and Johns for lunch and went home to get ready for dinner. Cabrey thought that they were going on a double date with friends and Kyle said this was still true. Little did Cabrey know that they were going to their favorite restaurant and it would be the two of them for a sweet evening. Kyle was very on top of the time they needed to leave for dinner while getting ready and made sure to leave right on time. It ended up being so early that they needed to kill some time driving around before dinner reservations at Shugas (the best ever). After driving around for some time, Kyle pulled up to Shugas and pulled off a good surprise for the night with a fun dinner. They reminisced on the day together and had some delicious food and drink at their favorite restaurant. After dinner, they drove through town together and reminisced on old spots in town that the two loved to go to together. They eventually drove by Cabrey’s old house and Kyle stopped in front of it. Cabrey quickly knew that they were at an engagement party and yelled “You’re dumb! But I love you!” After going inside, they were surprised by their Colorado Springs friends with a sweet evening to celebrate the day. They reminisced about the entire day, had some cake, and had some toasts to end the evening. This was the last surprise of the day and wrapped up one of the most special days of our lives.
Cabrey and Kyle are looking forward to a lifetime more of adventure together and can’t wait to spur one another on in love to be more like the people God created them to be! They are incredibly appreciative of your love, support, and prayers.
