Michael and Caitlin’s friendship stretches back to their childhood, when they were part of the same tight-knit community. Over the years, their lives intertwined in countless ways. Caitlin and Michael’s sister, Abby, were teammates on the local softball team, while their moms would often chat while waiting for school pick-up at Myrtle Elementary. Caitlin also spent plenty of time with Michael’s cousin, Mark, playing basketball together or occasionally sparring during their hangouts with mutual friends.

Though Michael was three years older than Caitlin, she developed a schoolgirl crush on him over time, always admiring him from a distance. As they grew older, their paths began to cross less frequently, until Caitlin entered her freshman year of high school.

In August 2015, Caitlin began her freshman year, while Michael started his senior year at Keystone Oaks. One of the classes they both shared was gym, and by chance, they had it during the same period. Michael immediately noticed Caitlin and, intrigued by her, decided to make the first move.

On the night of September 17th, 2015, Caitlin, a member of the varsity soccer team, attended the boys' varsity soccer game to show her support. Michael was there too, with a group of friends, and just happened to sit right behind her. Taking the opportunity, Michael playfully reached up and snatched the sunglasses off Caitlin’s head. In the process, he accidentally tugged on her hair, catching her completely off guard. Reacting instinctively, Caitlin spun around and grabbed his wrist, thinking it was one of her close friends. To her surprise, it was the guy she had secretly admired for years.

Michael then grabbed Caitlin’s phone and began snapping pictures. Before long, they exchanged Snapchat usernames and eventually, phone numbers.

After the unforgettable night of the sunglasses incident, Caitlin and Michael found themselves talking every day. They started bonding over gym class basketball games and soon went on their first date to Fiori’s in Peters Township. On October 7th, 2015, they shared their first Homecoming together, marking another memorable moment in their growing connection. Just a week later, on October 18th, 2015, after Caitlin’s brothers' soccer games, Michael, in front of Caitlin’s childhood home, asked her to be his girlfriend.

From that moment on, they continued to grow closer and build their relationship. They celebrated their first holidays together, met each other's families, and supported each other’s passions. They shared their first Prom, countless movie nights, and dinner dates, each one strengthening the bond between them.

After nearly a year of dating, Michael left for college at La Roche College, just north of Pittsburgh, while Caitlin began her sophomore year of high school. Despite the distance, they remained devoted to each other as Caitlin finished high school, went on to Robert Morris University, and Michael completed his college education. Over the years, the longest they were apart was two weeks for separate family vacations.

After graduating, Michael joined the electrical union and began working in the Pittsburgh area, while Caitlin’s career took her to La Crosse, Wisconsin, for her job’s Graduate Training Program. Suddenly, they went from living just five minutes apart and seeing each other multiple times a week to being separated by 12 hours, only able to visit once a month.

In December 2023, Caitlin returned home for good. Michael, knowing he never wanted to live without her again, wasted no time. He proposed, just a few short weeks later, ensuring they’d never be apart again.

On January 6th, 2024, Michael proposed to Caitlin on a cold, snowy day in the Laurel Highlands, beneath the breathtaking cascade of waterfalls during what Caitlin thought to be just a normal hike. It was Caitlin’s easiest "yes" ever, a moment filled with pure joy. Thankfully, Michael’s sister Abby and his best friend (and best man) Connor were there, discreetly hidden, capturing the unforgettable moment on camera and video. After more than eight years together, Michael and Caitlin were officially engaged, marking a beautiful new chapter in their journey.
