During the summer of 2022, Caleb had decided that he was going to stay in Denton, Texas rather than going back to Oklahoma. His roommates had both decided to go home for the summer so he was at his house by himself frequently. He had decided to try and get out of the house as much as he could. One thing that Caleb would do to get out of the house was go to a coffee shop called Zera to spend some time doing homework for his summer courses.

Shannon had decided to stay in Denton over the summer as well and was actually a volunteer at Zera. She usually volunteered on Thursday nights, but they had asked her to be there over that weekend. So, in mid-to-late May, when Caleb had decided to go to Zera for a couple hours, he ended up ordering from Shannon (side note, Caleb does not drink coffee and actually dislikes the taste very much). Caleb ordered an oatmeal cream pie, which Zera unfortunately does not serve anymore. Shannon was wearing a TWU sweatshirt which is where she was finishing her undergraduate program. Caleb decided to try and start some small talk and ask if she went to TWU. Shannon answered and they were able to talk for maybe a minute before Shannon had to take the order of the next person in line. Neither one of them had quite realized it at that moment, but a very long story had started with that one very short conversation.

At the time, Caleb was not looking to be in a relationship with anyone, but he could not keep his eyes off of Shannon the rest of the time he was at Zera. Every time she walked by, he had his eyes on her. Here is where things start to get pretty interesting. Caleb was pretty interested in Shannon at this point and they still had not talked anymore than that first conversation. So, he found her on instagram because she was following Zera's instagram profile. He decided it was best to not follow her, however, he realized that he was not following Zera so he did so. Since he was now following Zera, Shannon in turn was able to find Caleb's profile and she had no hesitation about following him. Of course, when she followed him on instagram, he followed her back.

At this point, Caleb was pretty sure that she was interested in him as well, so he had decided that the next time that he saw her at Zera, he was going to ask her out on a date. However, Shannon had something different in mind. She somehow knew that Caleb was going to ask, so she avoided him so that he could not ask her on a date in front of her friends. Caleb did not want wait any longer, so he sent her a message on instagram asking her on a date. She said yes of course and the rest is history.
