Our story began in the most modern way possible: an online dating app! Sure, that’s not the most romantic way it could have happened, but for two people who lived 75 miles apart we likely never would have met otherwise.
What started as a routine getting to know each other over text, quickly turned into nightly 3-4 hour calls. The spark was evident right away as we spent countless hours talking on the phone about everything. It didn’t matter if it was our deepest secrets or a simple “how was your day”, we just loved talking to each other.
Soon after, we had our first date and it was absolutely perfect. The moment we hugged for the first time we knew it was right. After walking around a local mall shaking off the nerves, we got into his car to grab dinner. He asked if I could reach into his glove compartment for his wallet, and to my surprise he had gotten me some gifts. A nice card, a stuffed animal with chocolate, and a Lego rose set we could build together so it would last forever. From that point on we never looked back.
Just a week later we officially started dating. Soon after we met each other’s families and became more and more in love with each other. The entire time since the first date we kept saying how we were perfect for each other and knew we’d be getting married one day. And to absolutely nobody’s surprise, we are! Here’s how it happened.
What started as a routine Friday turned into the best day I could’ve imagined. We went back to his hometown to see his family, and since it was on a workday he went into the office while I came with and worked on my laptop. During the day I thought everything was normal, what I didn’t know is his family was customizing and planning everything for his proposal. They were custom making signs, engraving on wine glasses, and at one point I even talked to his sister in law while she had the ring in her hand! Once the work day was over he told me everyone was going back to his parents house to celebrate his nephew graduating middle school. What followed was nothing short of a shocking surprise
We were downstairs playing pool while, unbeknownst to me, his family set up the proposal upstairs. He told me the pizza had just arrived and he wanted to sit outside and eat, so we walked up the stairs to grab a plate. He grabbed his speaker on the way out and started playing my favorite song, and I thought nothing of it. Once we got to the top of the steps and turned the corner I saw the black rose petals leading to the fire pit. I turned to him and said “Cameron, what’s happening?!” As I walked closer he had set up a large canvas with our first picture together printed on there, wine glasses engraved with the date, my favorite wine bottle, and a card. After I read off the card I turned around to find him down on one knee asking me to marry him. I said yes so quickly he couldn’t even get the ring box open before I kissed him! All the while his family recorded the entire thing, so we’ll be able to keep that memory for the rest of our lives.
