"And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."
Matthew 22:39
Our love story began August 6th, 2024 during a conversation of becoming neighbors.
Amanda:
Cameron and I first met when we attended the first Bible study being hosted by a mutual friend. Right away, I was intrigued by Cameron due to the way he talked about God. (I also really liked his deep voice!). During the prayer request portion of the night, I shared that we prayed over whoever God sent my way to live next door to me and my roommate, since we were living in a duplex home, and how I trusted the Lord would provide. Cameron raised his hand and expressed how he, his sister, and future brother-in-law were looking for a place to live together. After feeling excited for the prospect of already having the prayer request answered, we exchanged phone numbers.
After having moved next door, Cameron offered to carpool both of us to Bible study, since it made sense to just drive together, which I was excited for! I was already growing a liking to him, so the long car rides helped getting to know him and his heart even more. I noticed right away that he was an amazing man of God, with a gentle and deeply humble side to him, so I continued praying to the Lord that, if it was His will, we continue to grow closer. I loved that our values aligned, he made me laugh, but most importantly, his love for the Lord and submission to Him was a joy to witness! I patiently waited to be pursued by Cameron.
Cameron:
Little did I know that the carpool rides would be the beginning of my journey toward growing interest in Amanda as we would have talks about what was going on in our lives, but most importantly, we would talk about Biblical topics, cultural issues, and personal convictions we held. This led me to developing feelings for her that emerged about 2 months after having moved next door.
There was so much excitement to look forward to what God had in store in the new year. I decided that it was time to have more intentionality with my faith and to let go of my past sins. Beyond that, I was wanting to look forward to a new church to call home and Amanda helped lead me to hers. During the first month of the year, my faith had matured deeply as I sought the Lord through His Word and through daily prayer. I truly believe that this season of dealing with my past sins and drawing near to God made it possible for me to clearly see Amanda as someone I could date and prayerfully marry in the future. Feelings for her just continued to deepen as my faith grew and as I continued to learn about her faith journey. We regularly attended Bible studies, church, and Sunday small group together.
After a night of worship on a Friday night on the last day of January, her and I were chatting for some time like we normally did. Just as she was about to leave, I made sure that I extended the conversation so that I could ask her the first big question in our relationship: “Would you like to go out on a date with me?”, to which she boisterously responded: “Absolutely! I'd love to!”. I was shell-shocked because I could not believe she said yes but was so thankful at the same time.
Getting to know one another was natural and our fondness for each other grew quickly as Christ was at the center of our relationship. We made sure to talk about the important details, such as personal values, raising kids, and the importance of our walk with Jesus Christ. Our desire to take the next steps and get married happened after a month of officially dating.
On August 17, 2025, nearly a year later from when I had met Amanda, I asked the second big question and arguably the most important one when I got down on one knee and asked her: “Amanda González Heredia, will you marry me?”
Cameron & Amanda:
Since then, life has changed dramatically. We are looking forward to building our life together in a new home, longing for the day when we call each other husband and wife, and continue to strive to put Christ as number one in our relationship as we prepare to become one in this blessed season only He could have orchestrated in our lives.
From neighbors, to friends, to dating, to getting engaged, our holy Father has been the author of our love story, in His perfect timing. We wish to advance His kingdom on this side of heaven. As the Lord taught us the meaning of loving our neighbor (literally, figuratively, and Spiritually), we hope that you are encouraged to do so, too.
By dying on the cross for us, Jesus is the ultimate example of what sacrificial love looks like, teaching us how to love others.
May you "love thy neighbor" as well.
