Grand Teton is by far our favorite National Park we have visited so far -- there is so much beauty and wildlife to experience here!
We have included some of our favorite trails & spots inside the park, along with details to help you decide where you might want to go! We 100% recommend spending at least some of your time in Wyoming inside GTNP, we both really believe it to be one of the most amazing experiences/places & there is so much to see!
Hiking Trails & Details:
VIEWPOINTS (No Hiking):
1. Mormon Row -- Beautiful for sunrise! (One of the most photographed views in the world)!
2.. Jenny Lake -- fun spot to sit and relax by the water!
3. Snake River Overlook
4. Schwabacher Landing
5. Glacier View Turnout
***(these are all places you can drive to & park - no hiking required - just short a short walk!)
HIKES:
1. DELTA LAKE TRAIL
Trail Length: 9-mile out and back
Elevation Gain: 2,300 feet
Difficulty: Hard
Additional: (technically an unmaintained trail -- so we only recommend this hike to those of you who have experience hiking and have a bit of time built into your day to be out!)
Also — **can hike to surprise lake & amphitheater lake and then add delta lake onto these (11.5 miles total and 3,000ft elevation gain)**
2. JENNY LAKE TRAIL
Trail Length: 7.9 mile loop
Elevation Gain: 615 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Additional: (If you don’t want to hike the entire loop, take the Jenny Lake boat shuttle across the lake, and then hike the loop in a clockwise direction back to the Jenny Lake Visitor Center. The hike will be 5 miles long).
3. STRING LAKE TRAIL
Trail Length: 3.8 miles
Elevation Gain: 325 feet
Difficulty: Easy
4. CASCADE CANYON TRAIL
Trail Length: 9.1 miles
Elevation Gain: 1,100 feet
Difficulty: Moderate
5. TAGGART LAKE LOOP
Trail Length: 3.3 miles
Elevation Gain: 300 feet
Difficulty: Easy
Yellowstone is a little bit of a drive north, but if you have the time while you are visiting, we definitely recommend going!
It is the nation's first national park, and it encompasses 3,472 square miles (2,221,766 acres) which makes it larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined!
Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful! It's also home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. It is mostly in Wyoming, but the park spreads into parts of Montana and Idaho too.
HIKES:
1. OLD FAITHFUL GEYSER
Trail Length: short walk from parking lot
Elevation Gain: 0 feet
Difficulty: easy
Additional: **recommended to visit in the early morning or later in the evening when it will be a little quieter. You can see the estimated time of the next eruption on the board at the nearby visitor center
2. UPPER GEYSER BASIN
Trail Length: 3 mile loop
Additional: multiple geysers on trail
3. BISCUIT BASIN
Trail Length: 0.65 mile trail
Additional: Along the way you will see geysers and colorful hot pools, including Black Opal Pool, Jewel Geyser, Sapphire Pool, Shell Spring, Mustard Spring, Avoca Spring, and Black Pearl Geyser
4. GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING
Trail Length: 1 mile
Elevation Gain: short but steep uphill portion
Additional: park at the Fairy Falls Trail Parking Lot and hike a short 1 mile round-trip trail to the overlook
5. MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS
6. LAMAR VALLEY
This is Cam's fave spot in Jackson for coffee! (And breakfast/bakery items)!
This was Donovan's favorite place (shocker, haha)! It is a great place for live music & dancing in the evenings!
