I saw her across the bar… and I knew.
She was with a friend… and I with a few.
Our connection was instant - like that in a dream.
Despite her quick exit, for food truck ice cream.
Hope was restored, though I couldn’t feel dumber.
When she grabbed my arm to say “don’t you want my number?”
I didn’t take long, I could hardly wait.
A text the next day, to ask for a date.
The very next week. Drinks with view.
Unknown to me. I was sick with the flu.
Both sick as dogs, the fevers they came.
All my fault.. yet she took the blame.
The second date followed, with a slight different feel.
Hot soup and NyQuil, just trying to heal.
But that second date started with a simple embrace.
A hug so unforgettable - my heart will still race.
Fast forward a year, on a sunny Mother’s Day.
I told my mom, "Cam’s the one and she can’t get away."
I loved her then. I love her now. I’ll love her forever.
In this life. And the next. Wherever, whenever.
