Originally, Campbell and I matched on Bumble. We began talking consistently for a while, but I was off and on the app because I did not think that I would be able to find such an amazing person on a dating app. How little I knew and how shortsighted I was at the time. After matching with her for the third time and talking non-stop for a decent amount of time, Campbell, being the planner that she is, found a free concert at Klyde Warren Park for us to go to. Before the concert started, we decided to meet at The Company Café.
As I walked in, a girl waved to me, and I waved back, but something seemed off. She looked nice and everything, but she did not look like the girl that I had been speaking to online. I walked up to her and nervously asked if her name was Campbell, and she said, “No, she’s in the restroom and will be back soon.” I came to find out this was one of her dear friends, Aisha, and it made me feel less nervous. Once Campbell came back, we had an enjoyable conversation at the café and made our way to Klyde Warren.
We picked out our spot and set up for Wale to perform, and we both seemed to be having a great time. We were in the moment and enjoying each other’s company. As the night went on, the announcer said that they had a surprise guest to finish the show. Campbell and I had no idea who we were about to see. Suddenly someone steps on stage; all I heard was “Play That Funky Music,” and a man appeared onstage. It did not take long for us to realize who it was. As we pushed toward the front of the stage, we started singing and dancing, not ten feet from the one and only Vanilla Ice. We both had to laugh. We finished the concert, and I dropped her off at her apartment. I kissed her and knew that there was something extremely special about her. From the first time we met, I had a strong feeling that we were going to be together for a long time.
As any good love story in the 21st century begins, Trevor and I met online. It all started with a swipe, or whatever the cheesy saying is. After talking for a while, I invited Trevor out for a drink with me and some friends. This way, I had backup and would not worry if I were alone with a catfish or even a serial killer. Can you tell I have watched too many true crime documentaries? Either way, I decided to play it safe. He said yes, and I was excited, but unfortunately, he could not make it due to a family emergency. We still talked on and off over the summer and even matched two more times before we met. We tried our hardest to meet; however, college classes and the distance between Durant, OK, and Irving, TX, made it difficult. Finally, we found a date that would work and decided to go out on October 11, 2019.
Trevor asked me what I would like to do, as he would drive to my area. I found a couple of options and had him choose. We decided to go to Klyde Warren Park for a free concert they were doing. So, I nervously planned my outfit and had my friends help. My best friend and Maid of Honor, Aisha, agreed to drive me to my date as we had a sleepover the night before. The day finally came, and Aisha gave me a ride to the Mudsmith, where I planned to meet Trevor. The only issue was that I gave him the wrong address and realized it after we had arrived at the wrong shop. So, we headed to the right Mudsmith, and I gave him the correct location, only to find out that they had just permanently closed. So, Aisha and I found a cafe down the street called the Company Cafe, and I told Trevor to meet me there. At this point, I was nervous that he would not show up since I was making him drive all-over creation and decided to use the bathroom before he arrived.
I walked back to the table and saw Aisha talking to Trevor. I saw him and got butterflies. I was nervous but had a good feeling. After talking over coffee, we said goodbye to Aisha and made our way to Klyde Warren. We decided to split two chicken quesadillas from the food trucks to see who had the best one, and we waited for the concert to start. After listening to Wale and Shakey Graves, the host announced that a special guest from Dallas would be singing. With anticipation, we waited until “Play That Funky Music” started to play and Vanilla Ice appeared on stage. After the concert, Trevor, like the gentleman he is, offered to drive me home. After our date, I knew Trevor and I would have a long and happy future together.
