G: It was a beautiful Texas winter day, so about 68º. I had been recruited by my cousin Jackie to play in the St. Anne's Young Adult kickball league. I was supposed to meet Candace the first week, but destiny was not permitting, and instead we played dodgeball inside the gym due to the weather. Candace had something, MORE IMPORTANT TO DO, so unfortunately she did not attend. What could be more important than meeting me? The next week came around and we finally met. I introduced myself before our first game. The game was a lot of fun and Candace and I ended up sitting on the bench a couple of innings together. We began talking and I was really infatuated. She was intelligent, funny, beautiful and so many more adjectives. After the games the whole team went to a local watering hole, Kenneally's. Candace and I continued to talk until it was time to leave and then she gave me a ride back to my car. We continued to play kickball for the next couple of weeks until I worked up the courage, nay, balls, to ask her out. She of course said yes. Our first date was dinner at Ra Sushi, where I, being the amateur, fumbled through about two and a half sushi rolls. All the while, Candace is just giggling and probably wondering why the hell she ever said yes. After sushi, I had a clean shirt and some more date money, so Candace and I headed upstairs to the Mona Lisa Club for some wine and scotch. This was the highlight of the night. We just sat and talked for quite a while. About places we had been, plays and musicals we had seen, but most of all, our love for Disney, yes, Disney movies! You know, from there, it was smooth sailing. Nothing happened between then and the proposal at all. Lets just skip to that.C: We met at our 1st SAYA kickball game. I had recently moved back to Houston and my sister, Kristin, had been on the team the previous year, so I signed up too :) I remember giving Greg a ride to Kenneally's that night because it was one of the last times I drove my Altima before I got my new car, but I don't quite remember much else, other than that he seemed like a nice guy. He would awkwardly stand next to me a lot at the games, but I thought he was kinda cute in his baseball hat, so about 1/2 way through the season I finally agreed to give him my number. We went on a date to RA Sushi, which I thought was really sweet because he didn't actually like sushi at the time, but he knew I really did so that's where we went (Side note: I have converted him to liking sushi now). He really won me over at Mona Lisa after dinner though. He was so easy to talk to and he liked Disney and whiskey and musicals, what more could I ask for? At the end of the night I remember thinking, "Shit, I think I like him." We went on a few more dates and then I got cold feet and told him that it wasn't gonna work out. He was a perfect gentleman and kindly backed off without any hard feelings and gave me my space for a few months. But he was just still so freaking nice! And helpful, like whenever we needed something for SAYA, he was there and wasn't trying to get me back, he was just being sweet. So I finally came to my senses at a SAYA crawfish boil after he selflessly moved my car in the pouring rain so it wouldn't flood. So I kissed him, in the rain, and we've been together ever since :)

How We Met

G: Candace and I had been talking about getting married for a while, maybe since August of last year. The exact timeline is, disputable. Either way, since that disputable moment, I began looking for a ring. I spent probably more time than I should have researching diamonds. Did you guys know those things are so expensive? Thanks De Beers! I had a general idea of what to look for. In some of our early discussions on the matter Candace gave me her tastes and suggestions, aka instructions and serial numbers, so I knew what I was looking at. Once I finally admitted that I was out of my element, I started asking for advice and help. Luckily, I had someone in the same city that was extremely close to Candace and knew what she liked and what to look for, her sister! Kristin was a tremendous help! (Thank you Kristin) She was actually the one who found the setting that Candace has on her left hand! I went back one Wednesday evening to the jewelry store to make a purchase. Gil, the jeweler, got the diamond I eventually chose a couple hours before I got to the store! That was lucky! Once I ordered the ring I had to figure out how to pop the question. This proved harder than I thought. I had several ideas, but the more I tried to detail them out, they seemed a little unreasonable or too hard to coordinate. I wanted to pop the question privately, but also have Candace and I's family around to celebrate afterwards. Since we had started discussing getting married, we both sort of agreed that a February proposal was probably the best. Even after I purchased the ring (about 3 weeks before Thanksgiving), I kept mentioning February, February, February. I was hoping to throw her off the trail. With that misdirection in mind I was thinking of proposing some time before Thanksgiving, that way she could have the ring to show her family and friends at the holidays. But every plan that I came up with wouldn't work. Until one of my co-workers mentioned personalized ornaments. That was the plan! Now all I had to do was convince Candace to help me put up my Christmas tree in my apartment!C: I knew Greg was looking for a ring because we had talked about it a good bit, but he kept saying he was going to propose in February (although I was hoping it would be sooner). I found a few hints too, like a mock up of the ring on his phone when he accidentally deleted a photo covering it in front of me and the directions to Rice Village Diamonds on his maps when I went to put in directions to dinner. I knew he was looking, but I wasn't sure when he was gonna do it, because I was pretty sure February was a ruse. So I stayed in Houston to do Thanksgiving with Greg's family this year &amp; Greg kept mentioning that he was excited to put up the Christmas tree the next day. So on Friday, we went and got all of the decorations and put up the tree at his apartment. After I had finished putting up the star, Greg said he had "one more ornament" &amp; he was holding a red bag. As I opened it, he got down on one knee &amp; the heart-shaped silver ornament was engraved to say "Candace Marie Puhl, Will you marry me?" So I vigorously shook my head yes and Greg confirms that I actually answered him &amp; jumped up and down a bit too, because I don't remember that part, I was so excited. He also got another ornament asking my dog, Shelby, to be his "fur baby" :) He told me we had dinner plans to celebrate at Seasons 52, but when we got there all of our family &amp; nearby friends were there for a party! I was so surprised to see my parents, sister, &amp; paw paw, who were all in Louisiana for Thanksgiving just the day before! It was an amazing day &amp; it couldn't have been more perfect.
