So many things to do in Asheville and surrounding areas. Lots of hiking, shopping, and breweries. https://www.exploreasheville.com/things-to-do/
We hope to participate in some hiking and exploring ourselves.
Below are some suggestions from my sisters friend that grew up in Asheville:
Food
Limones (by far my favorite restaurant in Asheville - it’s pretty popular, so probably best to make a reservation!)
Cúrate
Ukiah
The Bull and Beggar (river arts district)
The Market Place
S&W Cafeteria
Asheville pizza & brewing (the downtown location is my favorite, but the location on merrimon Avenue is the original and has a movie theater if you need a rainy day activity)
Mountain Madre
Nine Mile (original location in Montford neighborhood is my favorite, but all their locations are great)
Corner Kitchen (biltmore village)
Breweries
There’s a section of downtown called the south slope (on and around Coxe Avenue) and there are tons of breweries there. Burial, the Funkatorium, and Green Man are our favorites. The Funkatorium also hosts something called Open Folk on Tuesdays at 7, which is a showcase for really good local musicians! The downtown location of Asheville pizza and brewing is also in this area and they have some of our favorite beers
The river arts district also has great breweries:
Wedge studios or Wedge foundation (both in the river arts district)
New Belgium (river arts district)
Hi-Wire (one location downtown and one in river arts)
Plēb winery
Cocktail bars
Antidote
Restoration rooftop bar
Top of the Monk
Hemingway’s Cuba
Outside of downtown
I grew up in Weaverville, which is just north of Asheville and is packed with great restaurants and art galleries but not nearly as crowded as downtown Asheville. So some weaverville recommendations are:
Maggie B’s Wine & Specialty store
• this store is owned by my matron of honor and it’s one of my favorite places on earth. They have great soups and sandwiches, cheese plates, and the walls are lined floor to ceiling with amazing wine. They also have local beer on tap, and they do a free wine tasting every Friday night.
Stoney Knob Café
Sunday brunch here is amazing but so is every meal. I’d recommend a reservation here too :)
Miya Art Gallery
Blue Mountain Pizza
Leveller Brewing
Eluvium Brewing
Mangum Pottery
Curtis Wright Outfitters if you like fly fishing!
Main Street grill is great for a simple burger, sandwich, etc.
Art gallery called Modern Local on Main Street in Mars Hill, which is about 10 minutes north of Weaverville J
Hikes
Craggy pinnacle (1/4 mile hike and incredible views)
Mount Craig (near mount Mitchell but less crowded)
Mount Mitchell
Black balsam knob (south on the parkway)
Max Patch (north of Asheville, 4 wheel drive recommended, more driving than hiking but it’s one of my favorite views and it intersects with the Appalachian trail!)
UNCA botanical gardens (not a hike but close to downtown and beautiful)
Other things
Tops for Shoes (heaven on earth if you like shoes)
LaZoom bus tour
Shopping in the Grove Arcade
Areas to avoid
Biltmore Park is south of Asheville, close to the airport, and is an absolute nightmare traffic-wise. It’s deceiving because it’s not even close to the Biltmore House (the area around the biltmore house is called biltmore village and it can get congested but is very cute and has great shopping and a few good restaurants). So I’d recommend avoiding anything over there.
