Carley and Jake met each other in the beginning of high school through Showchior. Freshman year, Jake was the lead guitarist, and Carley was there to watch her sister perform. Throughout the rest of high school, little instances like each of their best friends dating each other, multiple "Hi's" exchanged in the hallways, and Carley being on the same leadership team for The Awakening, a spiritual retreat in Zionsville, as Jake's mom. They had stayed friends throughout school, but only got close in the spring semester of senior year.

Unknowingly to Carley, Jake had a growing crush but was battling it, due to the knowledge that they would be at different colleges, with prayer and time alone with God. Jake started to read through Philippians and was moved by Philippians 1:21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain," and decided to post it on his Instagram story. Carley viewed it and slid up, commenting how that exact verse was her moms all all-time favorite, not helping the efforts to stop the crush. Jake wasn't fully convinced to ask her out yet, but God had one more sign up his sleeve. While Jake took his mom to go pick up family from the airport, Cynthia asked Jake an out-of-the-blue kind of question... "Have you ever considered dating Carley Seward?" Jake decided that that was evidence enough and asked Carley to a coffee date at their very last Showchior competition.

Jake and Carley went out for 2 weeks and then were in awe of how similar yet perfectly different they were, so we became We.
