Carlie and Kelly met on the Beta field trip to Huntsville, Alabama in the 5th grade, where Kelly tried to keep Carlie laughing the entire time. Their friendship grew over the years, and, at one point or another, they both had fallen for each other. They never got the timing right in grade school, even when they played husband and wife in the school's production of Harvey. Kelly never missed a volleyball game and Carlie watched every school play she could, particularly the improv ones where Kelly once again made her laugh. They graduated high school and kept in touch the first few years in college.

Carlie and Kelly reconnected early in 2022 and picked up right where they left off on that 5th grade field trip. Despite different paths, they had somehow grown into very similar people. Kelly visited Universal (and Carlie) after she finally asked him on a date after all those years. Kelly braved Velocicoaster just to see the locker system, and it was the best date either of them ever had.

Kelly asked Carlie to be his girlfriend after a day of hiking during a pollen warning and eating gluten free pizza in Market Square back in Knoxville on May 4th, making them a permanent Star Wars couple.

Kelly surprised Carlie by flying into town and coordinating with her friends to ask her to marry him at the very spot they first held hands. "This is the spot where we first held hands, and I knew in that moment I never wanted to let it go." - Kelly
