Planes, ferries, and automobiles (via ferries). . .
The easiest way to get to San Juan Island is via the Washington State Ferry System. The Anacortes Ferry Terminal is a two hour drive from the airport and about an hour and a half from city center (without traffic). You can either drive or walk onto the ferry.
Driving on:
Vehicle reservations are REQUIRED if you choose to drive onto the ferry.
The first batch of vehicle reservations for the spring schedule (March 24, 2024 through June 15, 2024) will be available at 10 a.m. PT Wednesday, February 14th. Make sure to pick the correct route, Anacortes --> Friday Harbor, as there are multiple routes that leave from Anacortes. Don't forget to make a reservation for your sailing off the island (Friday Harbor --> Anacortes) as well!
If you are unable to make a reservation at 10am on Feb 14th, there are two more chances to make reservations: 2 weeks before your desired sailing at 7am PT, and 2 days before at 7am PT.
ALSO IMPORTANT: If you make a vehicle reservation you must check-in at a tollbooth at least 30 minutes before reserved sailing in both directions. If you don't check-in on time, you will lose your reserved space and must travel standby. WSF recommends arriving 45-60min ahead of your scheduled sailing.
Walking on:
There are a couple of paid parking lots at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal. If you are planning to walk on, there will be a shuttle which will take you from the Friday Harbor Ferry Terminal to the wedding venue.
Flying to the islands is a luxurious, and unforgettable way of getting up there. Flights operate via numerous airlines (Kenmore Air, San Juan Airlines) and tickets can be bought via those providers. More info can be found here: https://www.visitsanjuans.com/airlines-charters
The Bellair Airporter is a service which can take you directly from SeaTac to the Anacortes Ferry Terminal in a few hours for a reasonable fee! It is a great option for out of towners who don't want to rent a car. Their website is https://airporter.com/. Just pick the date and the SeaTac to San Juan Island Ferry Terminal (under Anacortes) option and select a time!
If you are coming from out of town and are going to have a hard time driving up to the ferry, we are going to try to organize a carpool list to see if people can help each other out. Here is a link to a spreadsheet with info for how to get in touch with each other. We will follow up a month before the wedding, but feel free to reach out to each other and see if something could be arranged!
