September 2012 - First laid eyes on one another in a 3rd year elective course for both of us - Social Pschology

- our first assignment was to turn to the person next to you (as long as you didn't know them) and just say random facts about yourself. Then the other person had to infer things that were not said about the other person. Joe saw bruises all over carlyns legs and inferred that carlyn must play sports, joes guess was field hockey so was only partly right .

Joe graduated with a BA in recuration and health

Carlyn graduated with a Bsc focused in Biology and Psychology

September 2012 - Carlyns friend Mike was part of the caving club and was taking photos to help advertise for club days at UVIC. Carlyn volunteered to dress up into caving outfits ( no she did not cave nor was ever planning on joining the club) and pose for some shoots. Someone Joe ended up the one getting dressed up in caving gear and getting his photo taken and not Carlyn. After volunteering his time Mike invited Joe to a party him and his roommates where hosting, for the caving club as well as for back to school shennaigans.

End of September 2012 - Joe was getting ready to host a back to school party at his place and sent out an invite to Carlyn. Carlyn looked through the invite list and didn't have any common friends. therefore she roped in her next door neighbour who she also just met and Vicki (bridesmaid) to tag along to this party.

October 13, 2012 - Night of the party at Mikes house. Carlyn and Alex (bridesmate) had a soccer game to play and rookie night at the club house to attend before heading off to Mikes party. Carlyn made sure Joe was coming to her friends party and the rest is history.

The new couple go on a date to hecklers for there first one and one date. Carlyn showed Joe her true colors right off the bat, eating popcorn and having at least half a bowl of popcorn stuck in her hair.

First restaurant date is at ferris - Joe and Carlyn shared a chocolate porter from Phillips and ordered food. Carlyn did not finish her meal and packed it up. This is early on when she realized that no food is safe with Joe around. She forgot her leftovers in the fridge at his place and they were never seen again. Carlyn quickly learned after that leftovers are not a thing once Joe came into her life. No food is left uneaten or taken home for later.

Carlyns inability to finish a full meal and feed her hair withj Joes skills at making sure no plate goes unemptied was a match made in heaven.

These two love birds go dating for a few more years, living with roommates and finish their degrees. After Carlyn graduates her and Joe decide they are ready to move in together and start there next journey in life. Many apartments / moves / a small sint of long distance later and here we are today.

Carlyn and Joe found a passion for travelling after graduating and finally saving up from money. Joe and Carlyn got to travel to Flordia and Hawaii with one anothers families in 2015 and then Thailand was their first big trip just the two of them in 2018.

Unfortunately a thing called COVID 19 cancelled their 2020 travel plans.

The couple both decided that it was time go back to school and change career paths.

Why 13th? Is that not an unlucky number? Well for these love birds it is the exact oppsosite:

- Both there birthdays land on February 13th and August 13th

-Their Dating anniversary is October 13th

- on Sept 13th 2025 -Carlyn and Joe have known one another for 13 years

-and of course the main reason: 13 is Steve Nash jersey number making it Joe's favourite lucky number.

Carlyn and Joe both share a passion and dedication to their sports. Yes they have both played one another coed sports and soon realized that Carlyn was not blessed with basketball player height or skill level- no hand eye coordintaion. They both now stick to their own sports with Carlyn playing soccer since she was 6 years old and Joe coaching and playing basketball since he was a teen.

After a few months into dating young 22 year old Carlyn told Joe that she saw her future having a dog, and this was defiantly a deal breaker if he did not. Most couples talk about marriage and children but not this couple. Joe had grown up not having pets around and Carlyn the exact oppsoite grew up with at least one dog, hamster, fish, newt, cat , rabbit in the house at all times (emphasis on at least one!)

After 10 years of being extremly patient Beans came into this little family life and made it a trio.

Joe very unsure about having a dog, quickly become attached to the little brown fluff we call Beans.

Carlyn, Joe and Beans are very excited to get to share this day with all their loved ones, starting the next chapter of their lifes.
