Do I need a visa to enter Ecuador?
No, just your passport!
What’s the best way to get from the airport to the hotel?
Hotels usually can pick up guests form the airport. We suggest you contact your hotel to arrange airport pick up. Check the travel tab for more info on other options.
Are there hotel blocks or recommended places to stay?
Yes, La Palma Polo Club is blocked for the wedding party and family of the bride and groom. San Jose de Puembo is only 10 mins away and it will be blocked as well for the rest of the wedding guests (this is why is important to RSVP so we can notify the hotel of how many rooms we need to block for the wedding weekend). If you are not planning on staying there you can stay at Wyndham Quito Airport located 25mins from the venue or any hotel near the airport.
What’s the weather like in Quito that time of year?
Quito is located in the highland region of the country, despite being on the equator is not as hot and humid as people think. May tends to be pleasant. Expect temperatures ranging between 60s - 70s during the day with a cooler temperature at night and possibility of brief rain.
Is the altitude an issue? Should I prepare for it?
Yes, don't be running a marathon. Fun fact: Quito is located 9000ft above sea level, so you may experience shortness of breath and/or headache. When you arrive make sure to take it slow and drink plenty of liquids!
Is Quito safe to travel to?
Quito is mostly a safe city, but, as with any big city, you should be careful. Where the hotels are located, there will be no trouble. When traveling into the city, always be aware of your belongings (jewelry, phones, luggage). We recommend not wearing expensive jewelry when walking around the city and carrying your belongings in secure pockets or bags. We recommend travel buddies and not walking alone at night. Please ask us any questions when it comes to this topic!
What is Ecuador's currency?
AMERICAN DOLLARS! In the year 2000 Ecuador adopted American dollars $$$. Most establishments take credit cards, but we recommend bringing cash to pay for small purchases ($200 for the weekend should be plenty).
