Our Wedding

We met online through Catholic Match and the funny thing is that I, Carol, forgot I had a profile up as I hadn’t dated in a while and wasn’t actively looking to date. When Dan contacted me, I am pretty sure I rolled my eyes and said, “ I forgot to take down my profile!” I went ahead and looked at his profile and saw that he had graduated from the United States Military Academy. That held my interest as my brother, who sadly passed in January of this year, had also graduated from West Point. I had the intent of only saying hi and that we had West Point in common to a degree. Through a day long conversation through the messaging feature, we realized we had several other things in common. One was that we go to the same parish, and yet, never met. This convinced me I should at least meet him so I can say hi at church if I say him. We went to dinner the next week and through the conversation Dan was telling me places he had lived. He had graduated from Clovis, New Mexico and mentioned he also lived in Borger for a few years during middle and high school. I paused and said, “Did you day Borger as in Borger, Texas?”&nbsp;He said yes. I told him that I had graduated from Borger, Texas and two of my kids had graduated from Borger as I had lived there for 24 years. We did not live there at the same time though. We both stopped and thought about thought and started talking about people we both knew. He had gone to school with a few people that I knew very well and considered family. We talked about how crazy that was and we were still both friends with a one of the people. &nbsp;At this point he did not know my last name and just knew my first name. He went on to say there was another family… the Hadleys. I put my head into my hand and knew what was coming. He mentioned Mrs. Hadley, and he remembered she coached the St. Johns’ girls’ basketball team. I told him I knew her very well and that she was my Mother-In-Law. He then said there was a Hadley that his younger brother was best friends with for a time and was at his house a lot. &nbsp;When he said his name, I said yes, “That is my ex-husband”. I was married to him for 23 years. We sat and absorbed this for a minute with a few shocked comments and expressions. Here I am in Houston, Texas on a date decades later and my ex comes up in a discussion of people we have in common. The next weekend there was a West Point Founder’s Ball and Dan invited me to go with him. It was a great evening, and I met a few of his classmates from USMA and was also able to remember my brother in a special environment. From there, we continued to talk and go out to the theatre, dinner, the Astor's games and listen to live music. Our values were the same and there are many more life situations that we found out we had in common. We were connected quickly and were having a lot of fun. He proposed at Northgate Country Club and it was very sweet and heartfelt. He was very nervous though, which I found adorable. We were having dinner and as soon as no one else was in the room, he slowly slid down on one knee and ask me to marry him. Through God, we found each other, and with God we be together, finding new adventures while embracing the history and that is part of both of us. Yes, it has been a whirlwind of a year and we are looking forward to sharing our wedding with you. We hope to see you there!&nbsp;
