Our Story
We officially met for the first time in the fall of 2021, which was in Caroline’s junior year of college at Mississippi State and James’ sophomore year at Mississippi State. We were both enjoying a night out to dinner with our respective friends at a Starkville restaurant called Rosey Baby. Rosey Baby hosts a trivia night every Thursday, which is what Caroline was there for. James and his friends more than likely didn’t know about the trivia night and just went to enjoy some good Cajun food! James always wore a Delta Air, Inc. hat throughout his college years, and he was also told that delta guys were easy to pick out in Starkville by the way they dressed. Caroline saw his hat from across the restaurant, and how the group of guys were dressed, and decided she would introduce herself and see if any of the guys knew her family members from the Delta. To Caroline’s surprise, James and a few of his buddies did in fact know her family! The group Facetimed them that night, talked for a little while, and caught up with Caroline’s family that they knew. Afterwards, everyone went back to their own tables, and that was the end of the conversation. We did not exchange any contact information or social media accounts. We simply said, “It was nice to meet you!” and went our separate ways.
Two years later, in the fall of 2023, James was finishing his last semester at Mississippi State while Caroline had already graduated in the spring. Caroline and some of her best friends had traveled to Starkville for the weekend to attend a home football game. James had gone home to work on the farm that weekend. After the game, Caroline and her friends went to their favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner and started talking about meeting people, particularly guys. Once they made it back to Caroline’s parents’ game day house in Starkville, they decided to go to Snapchat quick adds, and on Caroline’s phone, they added any guy with a cowboy hat on his bitmoji. Sure enough James was on her quick add and he had a cowboy hat on his bitmoji! We started snapping back and forth, except for the whole weekend Caroline and her friends would only send James a Snapchat of all three of them! It was Monday before James really knew which one was Caroline. After a couple days of sending Snapchats back and forth, Caroline told James he looked really familiar. James agreed, and we put the puzzle pieces together and traced it all the way back to the first time we met at Rosey Baby.
We continued talking back and forth and decided after two weeks that we wanted to meet in person again. Caroline came back to Starkville for a long weekend, and James stayed in Starkville for the weekend. We had dinner at The Central Station Grille in Starkville in September of 2023. We talked the whole time, and it was like catching up with a best friend that we hadn’t seen in years! We went on several dates after that, and on November 20, 2023, James asked Caroline to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to November 20, 2024, after a whole year of dating, many conversations with close family and friends, and lots of prayer, James proposed to Caroline and asked her to marry him! She responded with a resounding, “Yes!” As the old saying goes, the rest is history.
