Caroline and Max meet and hang out together with friends. Max was just Caroline's new friend, who was leaving to go to PA school soon. Ha!

Max tells Caroline that he likes her, and wants to try long distance while he is in PA school. She agrees. He asks her to be his girlfriend a few months later on a ski trip with friends... she says yes (:

Max graduates from PA school! No more long distance dating, and Max moves back to NC.

and almost exactly 3 years after they started dating, Max asks Caroline to marry him, and she says yes
