Rincon is most famous for its surfing. While some beaches can be rocky, Sandy Beach (the venue location) has nice sand and is a popular spot for sunbathing and swimming.

While in Rincon you can book surfing lessons, catamaran cruises (with snorkeling), or just enjoy the town restaurants & bars.

If you are making a vacation out of it, I recommend exploring the rest of the island. It’s a 2 hour drive from Rincon to San Juan, and 3 hours from Rincon to Fajardo (coast to coast).

There are Walmarts in PR; I recommend buying snorkeling gear for the week ($40), it will be cheaper than renting and you can snorkel at any beach you go to!

Old San Juan - Beautiful historic town with amazing restaurants and a fun night life.

Luquillo/Fajardo - Located on the northeast side of the island, Luquillo has a nice beach with calm waters so it’s great for swimming, but it’s more popular so you won’t see as much sea life. Fajardo is where you take the ferry to Vieques or Culebra.

El Yunque rainforest - Located south Luquillo and famous for its waterfalls. I recommend booking a guided hike. You will want a rental car to go (you can’t get Ubers from the rainforest) but some tours include transportation. El Yunque is also home to a ziplining park (Toro Verde Adventure Park), with the longest zipline in North America that takes you over the rainforest.

Vieques - Highly recommended. Vieques is the larger side island to the east of Puerto Rico’s main island, and is known for its beaches, snorkeling, wild horses, and world-famous bioluminescent bays (kayaking tours are available at night for $60). The ferry is $2 and it’s $7/day to leave your rental car in the lot. You can also rent mopeds, UTVs or cars on Vieques ($60-$100/day), which you will need so you can get around to the beaches (Uber’s are unavailable on Vieques).

Culebra - The smaller side island to the northeast of Puerto Rico. It’s famous for the beautiful Flamenco Beach with white sand. You can take the $2 ferry or book a catamaran cruise to Flamenco beach for the day (~$100) from Fajardo.
