Our Story
It Started With A Lift
It was May 24, 2022. Caryn was brand new to the world of CrossFit and stepped into CrossFit Lifesport for her first real class. Who was the coach you may ask? It was none other than Mr. Dave Johnston. The class went about as well as can be expected for a beginner, but the connection was instant. Fast forward to spring 2023 and after months of exchanging glances and growing a stronger friendship, the two made it official. Things progressed from there with deep conversations happening over many cups of coffee and shared meals. Now 2 years later to the date, the two are getting married!
The Proposal
In August 2023, Dave had to travel to the east coast for work and strongly encouraged Caryn to go with him. On August 12th, after a brutal partner workout and a couple of hikes over actual changes in elevation, Dave got down on one knee while hiking near Gunpowder Falls.
Funny story: this was the last hike of the day and Dave and Caryn were rucking up the mountain. With 20 pounds on each of their backs, Dave joked that Caryn’s bag was heavier than his vest due to the extra rocks he added. When prompted to quickly remove the rocks, Dave searched for the “rocks” and in doing so, pulled out the ring.
