The Most Unexpected Pairing

Picture of The Most Unexpected Pairing

We met at a Phil Wickham concert back in June of 2021. Josh was just a friend of a guy that one of my friends happened to like at the time. I invited them both to our young adult's ministry, United. I simply invited them because, well I invite everyone! No feelings present!

In the winter of 2022, Josh decided he liked me and wanted to ask me out. We both remember how he asked differently, but he did run after me in the parking lot as I am literally trying to run away to my car so he couldn't ask me out. I even had my friend Emily man the door to warn me if he followed me. If you know anything about Em, people are always coming up and talking to her, so she got distracted and he snuck out. I ended up telling him I just wanted to be friends and that was the first rejection. Poor guy!

We became very close friends all throughout that year. Went on trips with groups together, lots of hangouts and two of my friends Brooke, Anna and I decided to do a What Not to Wear with Josh's wardrobe because it was just not working lol! I was constantly telling Josh I am so happy we are just friends, all. the. time. I think I was just lying to myself; I tend to be a bit stubborn.

In December we started flirting and then I realized I still wasn't ready and told him no again. The second rejection... it wasn't until March of 2023 that I realized; wait I actually really like Josh! But when I told him I was interested, he told me it's never going to happen because I dated another guy for like a month in between and I had recently broken up with him. On April 14th, 2023, we went to a biker bar for a concert "as friends" or so he thought. After the concert, I told him that I was all in and that I meant it this time. His immediate response was ok let's do this, I'm 100% in. As you can tell, Josh isn't nearly as stubborn as I am, and thank goodness for that!

To say the least, this wedding could have happened much sooner if I would have just opened my eyes. However, I think sometimes God blinds us from seeing the person we are meant to be with until He feels we are both ready. We both grew a lot in our spiritual walks with Christ in-between the first rejection and finally getting together.

Most people are still shocked we ended up together because I was so vocal about how it's never going to happen. But God had different plans and I'm so glad He did because I can't imagine spending the rest of my life without Josh by my side. Thank you, Jesus, for your eternal providence and faithfulness in our lives!

Josh is the water to my fire. We very much even each other out in the best ways! He is the Kitty to my Red (That 70s Show); the Chandler to my Monica (Friends); the Phil to my Claire (Modern Family) all couples who are very much different, but you can't picture one without the other! And even though most people would never have pictured us together originally, now I don't think they can ever picture us separately!
