When I left the Navy I was still single and had hopes to find a wife in college. I just didn't know God would provide so fast! What an awesome experience it has been! I was blessed to meet Ashton in February 2020 at our college's Baptist Student Ministry. It was the first night I ever attended, and was going to see a family friend who happened to be speaking that night. I didn't know anybody there, but all of a sudden this pretty young lady comes up and says, "Hi I'm Ashton, what's your name?" After continuing conversation, she invited me to the small group she led, and I got to know her a little bit more before the excitement of 2020 kicked in. Interestingly enough there wasn't this gradual process of getting to know her over this course of time. It wasn't until later that year after an event in our small group did she utter her famous last words. I was in the midst of being teased when the topic of marriage and last names came up, and Ashton piped in with, "Good luck finding a woman who would want that last name!" (Talk about some famous last words). Inevitably, although it was just teasing the complexity of Guliuzza as a last name, I was hurt at my perpetual singleness. I laughed it off, but Ashton did notice some of the hurt. After the dismissal from the post event debrief Ashton stuck around to talk with me. What would have been an expected 15 minute chat ended up lasting almost 3 hours. The more I talked with Ashton the more I was blown away by this woman, and the more I was starting to become enamored with her. Afterwards we continued to have additional talks, quickly leading us into a relationship. To cut to the chase, falling in love with Ashton has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. She greatly compliments who I am and I as I get to learn more about Ashton, I also get to learn more about ministry and relationships in general. Whether Ashton realizes it or not, I learn from her on a daily basis. "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." (Proverbs 27:17) Ashton sharpens me and I look forward to maturing more with her for the rest of my life.

Casey

I met Casey near the beginning of 2020 when he visited the Baptist Student Ministry where I am on leadership. The speaker mentioned that his coworker’s son was in the audience so I made a mental note to greet the new kid. After the service I went and found Casey and introduced myself. From there he joined my small group and… COVID happened. So other than that first conversation, some meetings, and lots of group zoom calls, I didn’t actually see much of him or get to know him that semester. 	In the fall semester when BSM events started back up, Casey started getting more intentional about being part of the group. One day, during the group’s event debriefing, some members were arguing over how to pronounce his name, and I wanted to end the argument so that I could talk to Casey, so I decided to make a drastic joke that would hopefully end the pronunciation-conversation and move us forward. I said, “It doesn’t matter how you say it, cause Casey, good luck finding a girl who’s gonna wanna be a Guliuzza!” 	Ironically, that statement lead to him and I getting into a long, personal conversation that left me awestruck and wondering if the Lord might just have me eat my words. That was the first time I really talked to Casey and started actually getting to know him. From there we started having more of those conversations until we were talking consistently and getting to know each other well. The more I knew him the more drawn to him I was. I denied I liked him for as long as I could (2 weeks) but it was no use! He was too fantastic! Then I just tried to put off telling him I liked him, but that didn’t work either. He was sweet and passionate and caring and thoughtful and I could not get enough of him. As I prayed about letting him into my life (and maybe my heart too) it became clear that I was falling for him hard and fast- and that was okay. He was worth it. Was he the perfect guy? Oh no, of course not. But was he a Christ-like guy? Absolutely. And more than a guy who would worship the ground I walk on or give me everything I want or make me feel like I am flying, I want a guy who loves Jesus and wants to love people the way Jesus does. As handsome as Casey is, the most attractive thing about him to me has always been his heart. 	The very last thing on my mind when I first met Casey was “I might marry this guy.” But I believe God does stuff like that, unexpected things that make more and more sense as you watch them unfold. The more I got to know Casey- his heart, his passions, his growth- the less I could picture myself with anyone but him. And the growth was really what got me; here’s a guy who is willing to hear my input and actually consider it and do something with it. Here’s a guy who is willing to humble himself and acknowledge he’s not always right. Here’s a guy who is embracing discipleship and changing for the better. And most importantly, here’s a guy who loves and pursues Jesus. When our friendship started blossoming I couldn’t help but admire Casey’s passion for hard work and biblical living, and the more time I spent with him the more time I wanted to spend with him. Falling in love with Casey was definitely unexpected, but it made more and more sense as it unfolded. I can’t even tell you with words how excited I am to get to be his partner for life starting August 14th!

Summer was Ashton's roommate for the 2020-2021 school year! She is a wonderful cook and friend and living buddy and is studying to be a teacher!

Aislinn is Ashton's 13-yr-old sister who is also talented in the arts like music, dancing, and acting! She has taught herself several different instruments and is just awesome.
