How We Met

Picture of How We Met

(told by Cassie)

It all started with a text in August, 2015. Josh asked my friend for my phone number after seeing me play at a volleyball game freshman year. He must've thought I was cute or something...

After that, we started texting. The first time we ever even spoke to each other was at a football game. We planned to meet up, but when I saw him walking towards me with his friends my stomach dropped. In my head I was thinking, "What am I going to say? Do I look okay? He's a sophomore!!!" But what ended up happening, was I talked his ear off the whole game because I was so nervous. We ended the night with a hug and planned our first date to the movies soon after. He actually offered for me to come to his house, and I remember telling him that my mom would NEVER let me go to a boy's house. And that was almost spot on, because the first time that I did, (she dropped me off because we weren't old enough to drive) she walked me to his front door to meet his parents. I was kind of mortified. But hey, apparently it didn't scare him off.

At school, I was late to Geometry every day because I was flirting with this sophomore boy by his locker. All of my friends teased me and were so interested with me talking to this older boy. Soon after, on my birthday, October 22nd, 2015, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said, "Awe, okay!"

We went to all of our dances in high school together, except the very first one. The photo above is from this dance. It was the first time we ever danced together. Before we "officially" started dating. Josh makes fun of me to this day because that was the first time I have ever slow danced with a boy, and I put my arms around his waist.

My high school sweetheart. Thank you to Blackhawk High School for bringing us together. We've been obsessed with each other since 2015. 9 years of loving you!

NOW WE'RE GETTING MARRIED!

The Proposal

(told by Josh)

I knew I was going to marry Cassie a long time ago. I just had to wait until the time was right.

In May 2022 I graduated college and got a job shortly after. I saved up almost every penny I made because I knew the first thing I wanted to buy was Cassie’s ring (and I picked it out myself).

Later on in the year, Cassie and I were planning to take a trip to New York City during Christmas time and I thought that would be a great time to propose. After we had a good idea about that trip, I snuck over to Cassie’s parents house (when she wasn’t there) to get their blessing (they said yes)!

In December 2022 Cassie graduated college and we left for New York City a few days later. The first day we were there, Cassie started talking about the subject of getting engaged, but I told her I hadn’t even thought of it (I had to throw her off my scent). Meanwhile I had the ring in my luggage and full intentions of proposing the next day.

On December 13th, 2022, Cassie and I went out into the city to enjoy our day (which was full of fun plans). First we went to the Russian Tea Room and had a very fancy lunch. Then we stopped by The Plaza and they let us in because we looked cute and in love. After that we shopped around in all the stores on 5th Ave. We also went to Tiffany’s (just because) and Cassie didn’t want to look at the engagement rings because she thought I wasn’t thinking about getting engaged. Then we made our way to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant before we went to a carriage ride we had planned in Central Park.

After dinner we had some time to kill so we just took a stroll through Central Park (even though it was dark out). There were rats the size of small dogs and scary people everywhere. We found our way to a nice flat field with a big tree in it and a street lamp so we could actually see, and this is where I decided I’d pop the question. I told Cassie about how much I love her and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her and the rest is history! Then we took a beautiful carriage ride through Central Park as fiancés. The perfect end to the perfect day.
