The Plan, The Execution, & The Celebration
Tyler and Cassandra had long awaited their cruise last fall. It would mark one of the most unforgettable moments of their lives. Cassandra had an inkling that the proposal would happen during the trip, but the "when" was a mystery that kept her on edge. She was constantly wondering if each moment could be the one, trying to stay prepared for something she couldn’t predict. Fortunately, the moment came early—on the second night of the cruise—and coincided with formal night, meaning she was already dressed to perfection for the occasion.
What Cassandra didn’t know was that behind the scenes, Tyler and their friends had been meticulously planning for weeks. On the morning of the proposal, Tyler had woken up early to explore the ship, supposedly for a morning cigarette, which raised no suspicions. In reality, he was searching for the perfect location to pop the question. While he had originally envisioned a starry backdrop, the bright lights of the cruise ship ruled that out. So, with help from their friends, they settled on a romantic spot in the dining room—on the balcony behind the stage.
As Cassandra got ready for dinner that night, she had a feeling the proposal could be near. Maybe Tyler would make a speech at the table? But she couldn’t have imagined the elaborate plan Tyler had in mind, with all their friends in on the surprise.
Before dinner, they planned to take photos at the pop-up professional photo booths. It didn't seem odd to her when Tyler suggested it, as they were all dressed up and it felt like a natural part of the evening. After the ship's presentation for formal night, she noticed their friends had suddenly disappeared. She found it odd and a little disappointing, thinking they had skipped out on taking photos with her and Tyler. But in reality, their friends had gone to the dining hall to ensure everything was in place for the proposal.
The group had their eyes set on the Captain’s table behind the balcony over the stage, but a family was lingering there. One friend, eager to secure the spot, politely explained the situation, and the family quickly wrapped up to make room. Tyler and Cassandra arrived late to dinner, but it turned out to be perfect timing, as the balcony had been full of people taking photos just moments earlier. Even a performer had sung a song, making everyone on the inside a bit nervous about whether the timing would work, but thankfully it did.
As Tyler and Cassandra wrapped up their photos, they were getting messages from their friends, directing them to the third floor of the dining room. Cassandra suggested they walk across the fourth floor and down, but Tyler insisted they go directly to the third—his persistence hinting at something more than she knew.
Once they arrived at the dining hall, there was a brief moment of confusion when they tried to explain that their table must be on the third floor, as their app was wrong. But their friend quickly stepped in, guiding them into the dining room. As they rounded the corner, Cassandra was surprised to see a huge gondola in the middle of the room. She exclaimed in delight, “Oh my gosh! There’s a gondola in the dining room!" But the true surprise came when she looked to her right and saw all of their friends up on the balcony. They dropped a blanket covered with photos of her and Tyler, with the words “Will you marry me?” in the center.
She turned to find Tyler down on one knee. In a moment of pure surprise and excitement, she hardly remembered him asking the question—she just knew her answer was a resounding “Absolutely!”

The room was filled with joy as they took photos on stage with the blanket, and even more friends came out of hiding, snapping pictures and capturing the magical moment. Their families, who couldn’t be there in person, were on FaceTime, thanks to a router their friends had set up to make it possible.
After the proposal, they headed to the Captain’s table to celebrate with a delicious meal—lobster included! Surrounded by amazing friends, they shared stories of how the plan had come together, marveling at the effort everyone had put in to make the night so special. It was a beautiful testament to the love and support of their friends, and the couple left feeling even more excited to celebrate with them—and many more—on their upcoming wedding day.
