Things to Do

-- Food & Drink --

The Hattery Stove & Still

When leaving New York, Cassie and Jack lamented all the culinary excellence they would now have to do without. The Hattery was the first place they went to where they felt that maybe their taste buds would be okay after all.

Jack and Cassie definitely recommend walking around the town afterward, which is chock full of fun shops and beautiful architecture.

Website

Northbound

2 W Broad St, Souderton, PA 18964, USA
(267) 203-8076

From their site: “Built on the foundations of the railroad, Northbound excels in providing the Souderton area with an exceptional menu of entreés and cocktails.”

A go-to spot for when entertaining visiting family and friends (even Cassie’s dad had a raving review of their apple cider margarita last fall). Rainy day? A trip to Northbound pairs great with a movie, as it is a block away from Broad Theater (https://broadtheater.com/). Cassie and Jack will often do lunch or dinner and a movie this way.

Free Will Brewing Co.

Perkasie is home to a shocking 3 independent breweries, which is awesome. Free Will in particular has become Cassie and Jack’s favorite go-to spot for a quick get-out-of-the-house-and-do-something escape. Especially if they bring their magic cards with them for an IPA-fueled match.

The Perk

The local watering hole occupying a circa 1850 stone building that used to be a hotel. In its early history, it was a popular stopover for Lehigh Valley merchants and farmers enroute to Philadelphia.

A place with good vibes for a beer or a meal.

Peddler's Village

A fun, walkable “village” of shops, eateries, bars, and boutiques that has something for everyone. An old stomping ground of Cassie’s mother Sandy, and also located right next to the school Jack teaches at. There is something pretty cool about that.

The Factory Antiques

Jack and Cassie's go-to antique store!

Delaware Canal State Park

39 New St, New Hope, PA 18938, USA

A truly beautiful trail that runs along the Delaware River and showcases not only gorgeous views of the waterfront, but also the classic riverstone houses that Bucks County is known for.

Cassie and Jack recommend parking at Magill's Hill Park and taking the tow path right into New Hope for a perfect mix of nature and local culture.

Top Rock Park

165 Top Rock Trail, Quakertown, PA 18951, USA

A moderate hiking trail at the nearby Lake Nockamixen State Park. When Jack and Cassie did this trail last September, Cassie thought he was going to propose at any moment. He did not. Instead, they strayed a little too far off the trail and got lost for about an hour. Despite that, Cassie loves this trail for its quality rocks and the moss that grows abundantly on the stone.

From TripAdvisor:

"The first half of the trail is very easy and has little to no rocks. The second half is mostly rocks, but is easy to navigate and does not require an expert. At the top of the trail sits a few rock formations including Top Rock which is a large flat platform rock that over looks the trail."

Ralph Stover State Park

One of the earliest memories of their new life together in Pennsylvania was Cassie asking Jack if he'd want to go for a nature walk during her lunch break one summer day shortly after moving in. They found this park nearby and instantly fell in love with its shallow creek and dynamic rock formations. In fact, over a year later that is where they chose to have their Engagement photos taken!

The park offers a variety of nature opportunities, from a gentle stroll along the creek and under the pedestrian bridge, to a more rigorous hike up into the stony ridges. For the more dedicated hiker, check out Tohickon Valley Park, which has a large network of trails a little ways down from Ralph Stover.
