Justin and Cassie met at Kansas State University through a campus ministry. However, while they both attended K-State their paths didn’t cross often enough to become close friends. They both found themselves in the Kansas City area after college where they lived just down the street from each other without even knowing it. Their journey together didn’t truly begin until they were reconnected through church.  Their story seemed to be one of “the right person but wrong time” until one day, while they were just friends, Justin asked Cassie out on a date for tacos and it took no time at all to realize they wanted to be more than friends.  As they look over their lives they see how God orchestrated every little moment.

HERS

On June 6, 2020, we went on a long anticipated, post-quarantine, date. Our date details were a surprise, as they usually are with Justin. After picking me up he told me he had a new place in mind for a picnic. We picked up our favorite sushi and had a beautiful picnic in the Loose Park rose garden- he knows I’m a sucker for flowers.  Justin and I always like to grab three fortune cookies (one for each of us and one for us together), that night I thought there were only two. As we walked down to the garden, Justin told me there was a third cookie in the bag and as I opened I saw there in my fortune him asking me to marry him! The answer- of course- was YES! It was so fun hearing about all the things he planned behind the scenes. Justin came into my life when I least expected it but oh how thankful I am for God’s perfect timing. In a time I needed it most, Justin brought so much joy into my life. Seeing his love for God, the way he cares for me and the way he illuminates the good around us makes me beyond excited to be his wife!

Cassie’s love for the Lord, kind heart, cute smile, soft eyes, adorable laugh and fun personality took my heart by surprise as I had never met anyone like her before. The moment became very real for me when I found myself in Jose Pepper’s with Cassie’s dad asking for his daughter’s hand in marriage. After many chips dipped in queso, the answer was ‘yes’.  I already knew that I wanted to propose with fortune cookies but the pandemic complicated things so I had to improvise. Cassie and I’s favorite place to eat is a local Chinese spot where we would always get three fortune cookies and then it became a tradition of ours that every Chinese place we ate at we would get three.  I searched for a spot that would be meaningful and beautiful, like her, and I came across Loose Rose Garden in KC. We picked up one of our favorite sushi and headed for a picnic. I took her on a walk through the garden as I had a camera man hidden ready to take our picture when the time was right. At the entrance of the garden I got down on one knee and asked Cassie to marry me. After several seconds or hours passed- I couldn’t tell because my heart was racing so fast- she said yes!
