5 Most Popular Hikes in Zion:
1. Angels Landing (permit required, can apply for it day before this time of year or July 1st - 20th): Angels Landing in Zion National Park is one of the most spectacular day hikes in the world. The trail to its lofty summit was hewn out of its steep, rock-solid spine in 1926. The hike climbs up roughly 1,500 vertical feet along the narrow fin of stone that reaches a top elevation of 5,790 feet. A chain railing adds an element of safety, but if exposed heights make you weak in the knees, it will take a double-dose of courage to make the summit.
Distance: 5.4 miles round-trip
Hiking time: 2-4 hours
Best season: Early spring to middle autumn. Hiking permit required beginning April 1, 2022.
Difficulty: Strenuous
Hazards: Cliff exposure; can be slippery and dangerous when wet. The Angels Landing hike is not recommended for young children.
2. Emerald Pools Trail: Outside of Angels Landing, it doesn't get much more classic than the Emerald Pools of Zion National Park. This striking desert oasis is directly across from the Historic Zion Lodge, which means easy access and plenty of traffic. The trail follows a small, verdant stream that collects in a series of "pools."
Distance: 1.2-mile round-trip loop to the Lower Pool; 2-mile round-trip visit to the Middle and Lower Pools; 2.5-mile round-trip hike to all three.
Hiking time: About 1 hour
Best season: March–November
Difficulty: Easy (Lower Pool); moderate (Middle and Upper Pools)
Hazards: Small drop-offs
3. The Narrows: A slot canyon through some of the most beautiful rock forms in the American Southwest.
Distance: 5 to 9.4 miles round-trip, depending on how far you go.
Hiking time: 3 to 7+ hours
Best seasons: June–July, September–October
Difficulty: Moderately strenuous
Hazards: Flash flood danger; near constant wading in water
Recommended equipment: Hiking shoes (not river sandals) that can get wet and drain well – you can find an outfitter in Springdale that provides waterproof socks and hiking boots; clothing that can get wet and still provide insulation (NOT cotton); wading staff or hiking pole; dry bag; headlamp just in case you get stuck somewhere in the Narrows.
4. Zion Canyon Overlook Trail: Located just east of the famous Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel, the Zion Canyon Overlook Trail is just half a mile long, but it delivers some of the most spectacular views in the park. It’s easy to reach and relatively flat, making it a popular spot for many hikers. But don’t let the fear of crowds deter you from enjoying this path that travels above the Great Arch and features one of the signature views of Zion Canyon.
Trail Length: 1 mile (round trip)
Hiking Time: About an hour
Difficulty: Moderate
Elevation Gain: 163 feet
5. The Watchman: An out-and-back hike that passes overhanging cliffs and stratified rock layers as it leads into the foothills below The Watchman and Bridge Mountain.
Distance: 2.7 miles (4.3 km) round trip
Hiking time: 1-2 hours
Best season: April–October
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Hazards: Moderate drop-offs

E-Bike Rentals for Park Entry:
The only other way to get into the park without taking the shuttle is to go on an e-bike. It's actually one of the hosts favorite ways to explore the park and is apparently amazing! I would highly recommend this over riding a shuttle.
You can call Trevor at 208-880-9261 for more info on e-bike rentals. If you tell them you are staying at Zion Red Rock and that Andrea sent you, you'll get the special Zion Red Rock guest discount which is $10 off per e-bike. You can check out e-bike details at www.zionpeddler.com
1. Jem Trail:
Good for going fast, great views, little climbing, with some technical switchbacks. Variety of beginner/intermediate to advanced options, with quick little splits along the trails for more advanced mountain bikers. The terrain consists mostly of desert hardpack, so you’ll be able to go fast without having to worry about too many surprises. There are amazing views along the sketchy cliff-side section along the Virgin River. Do the out-and-back 13 mile trail, or combine with Hurricane Rim and Gould Rim for a 20+ mile loop.
2. Gooseberry Mesa Trail System: (Private access to trails from our rental properties):
One of the most well-known trail systems in Southern Utah for its world-class trails full of technical single track, rolling slick rock, and incredible views of Zion National Park. The trails are well-marked with signs at the junctions and spray paint markers on the slick rock to keep you on track. You’ll get both the challenges and rewards of riding on bare rock. Miles of single track can be linked together on the mesa, there are options for beginner to advanced riders. The Practice Loop (also known as Slick rock 101) is best for beginners or a warm up, and the South to North Rim Loop is the perfect technical challenge, giving you a taste of everything Gooseberry has to offer. Have fun creating your own ride in this awesome network of trails.
3. Little Creek Mesa:
If you have trouble with balance, navigation and hitting technical stunts, think again before taking on these backcountry-like trails. There are only two interconnected loops at 9 miles each (West Mesa Loop and North Point Loop), or the advanced option to combine the two routes for 14 miles of riding. West Loop has more tree-lined flowy single track, the North Loop has more slick rock and difficult tech stunts. The hard work is worth the views of Gooseberry Mesa and Pine Valley Mountains in the distance.

The Virgin River runs for 162 miles from north of Zion National Park to the Colorado River and Lake Mead, AZ. Fishing is consistently good year round. The Rainbow Trouts like to roam the waters of the East fork of the Virgin River, just North of Glendale along Hwy 89. As the river makes its way through the southern reaches of Zion National Park from Mount Carmel east of Parunuweap Canyon all the way to the confluence of the North Fork in Springdale. Near Zion National Park there are two distinct fly fishing options; higher elevation (above 5,500 ft.) streams and lakes to the northeast of the park for wild trout as well as high desert bass fishing to the west.
