Our Story

Narrated by Danny...

Dec 22, 2022

I sat at the Copper House Tavern in Waltham with my coworkers where I was told that an old coworker, Cat, would be joining us. Cat had recently moved back to Massachusetts after spending two years opening and running a clinic in St. Louis. The team in the Waltham clinic was amped to see her again now that she was back, whereas I was solely looking forward to some beers and wings after work. My focus on my Fiddlehead IPA immediately diverted when I saw an incredibly beautiful woman enter my view. She got bombarded with hugs, and then motioned to me for a professional handshake across the table. The second after seeing her smile at me, as a single guy with no prospects in sight, I knew that I had a new mission for this dinner and that was to make a good impression on this girl because WOW. A curveball, however, was thrown at me as I immediately found out that she would be the clinic lead at my next stop in my “residency rotation” in Weymouth. Yes, she would be my boss…

Time for my first day of my rotation in the Weymouth. I was told that everyone in the clinic likes to wear scrubs, however I had a golf polo that was very tight around my arms. I figured this was a requirement for the second time that I would get to meet Cat. From the first full day that I spent with her, I could already tell that she was incredibly special. She boasted a passion for her job, but more importantly, a desire to serve a positive light in each and every kid that she treated, trying to glorify God in everything that she did.

Cat had asked me to give her brother Nick a baseball lesson previously, and today was the second time. I met Nick and her Dad at the high school to help with his pitching, and Cat was there to watch as well. Cat was very nicely dressed, as though she were going out on a date… an odd choice of clothing to show up to a baseball field in. The lesson ended, and Cat expressed that we should go to the brewery, True West, for some drinks. I wish I could say I caught on, but I was blind to the fact that she was “making a move.” I did, however, think this was a perfect opportunity for me to, in fact, “make a move.” The brewery trip ended, and I expressed that we should grab a bite somewhere, my idea to keep the night going. We ended at Santa Fe Burrito Grill, where in the parking lot before leaving our future began with a first kiss (that I totally initiated, don't listen to what Cat says...)

The plan was set. What Cat knew was that we were to head to True West to get drinks with Elaina and Connor, prior to meeting up at her Dad and Karen’s house to then head to Gibbet Hill for dinner with my parents. What we all knew outside of Cat, was that I was set to propose at True West, and there was a surprise party at the house with family and friends. The day got off to a tremendous start, when I forgot my house keys during a trip to the gym that morning and locked us out of my house. We sat there for 30+ minutes and I thought I may be making an embarrassing phone call to our families. Thankfully, my roommate was inside, and the plan was back in motion. 45 minutes prior to leaving, Cat wanted to take a nap. Somehow, she did not question why my heart rate was at 200 bpm and I was sweating in my air-conditioned room. The ring was in my driver’s side door, however she insisted that she drive so I had to sidestep my way to her car with an engagement ring box bulge visible for over a mile in my back pocket. When the moment finally came, and we were in front of the place of our first date, I got down on one knee. The speech that I had rehearsed 30+ times did not come out of my mouth, but all the memories that we have made in the past.
