Catherine and Ben met through OKCupid in the summer of 2013, while they were both working in New York City. Ben was teaching second-grade and completing his masters degree, and Catherine was a research assistant in K-12 Education policy at MDRC. In addition to their shared interest in education, they initially bonded over their mutual love of breakfast foods (especially bagels), and running regularly but not too quickly. As they began spending more time together, Ben introduced Catherine to stand-up comedy and NBA basketball. In return,&nbsp;Catherine&nbsp;helped Ben appreciate country music and has&nbsp;slowly turned&nbsp;him into an Atlanta Falcons fan.

Our Story

In 2015, Catherine was deciding where to attend graduate school, and Ben agreed to move to Cambridge, MA with her. Shortly thereafter, they adopted their cat Cinder, who has become the center of their little family and the subject of 95% of their cell phone pictures and videos. Like many cohabitating millennial couples, Catherine and Ben’s conversations about marriage started long before the proposal. But Ben made things official during a morning hike&nbsp;in the Lake District of England. They are both excited to be taking this next step together and to have the opportunity to share it with friends and family.

Childcare during the wedding

For those out-of-town guests who will be traveling to our wedding with their children under the age&nbsp;of 11, we will be providing babysitting services on the evening of the wedding (4pm-midnight). Kids aged 11-12 that are invited to the wedding can stay with the babysitter instead if they find the idea of a wedding boring.&nbsp;:)&nbsp;

We have reserved two adjoining hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn, and we will have 1-2 babysitters in attendance depending on the number and ages&nbsp;of kids. We are still coordinating the babysitters, but they will be folks who we/our family knows well from running church daycare or preschool classrooms.&nbsp;





On the evening of the wedding, we'll plan to order some kid-friendly food and have some age-appropriate activities and movies. You can drop your kids off before catching the shuttle to the wedding, and pick them up when you return, any time before midnight.&nbsp;

FAQs

Are you getting married on a Sunday?Yes! We are taking advantage of the long weekend and hope that family and friends will be able to join us even if they cannot take off work. But, if you can take off work, come for a couple extra days to explore Atlanta!&nbsp;

Can I bring my kids? 

We love the children in our family and those of our friends, but our wedding ceremony and reception are for guests ages 11 and up. For our out of town guests who are traveling to Atlanta as a family, we will provide&nbsp;a "kid's room" with a babysitter&nbsp;at the Holiday Inn - please see the "Details -- Childcare" tab on this website. We can also recommend some local babysitters if you believe your little ones will require more personal attention.&nbsp;











For those traveling with their&nbsp;kids, feel free to come as a family to the Welcome Reception (if they're still awake!) as well as the&nbsp;Farewell Brunch.&nbsp;

Can I bring a date?We want to share our love with those we love (and those that they love), and to that end, have tried our best to include all partners' names on invitations. If your invitation says, "and Guest", you're welcome to bring a date. Otherwise, we'd prefer that it's just you!&nbsp;

Are you having a fall wedding?&nbsp;

While Labor Day typically marks the start of Fall up north, it will still be summer weather in Atlanta. Expect heat and humidity. The ceremony and reception will both be indoors (air-conditioned), and the cocktail hour will have both indoor and outdoor space.&nbsp;

Is this wedding in Atlanta?

Much like Catherine's childhood, this wedding is in the metro-Atlanta area, but not in the heart of the city.&nbsp;The reception is being held in Roswell, which has a cute downtown area with lots of restaurants, shops, and bars.&nbsp;

Should I plan to drive to the wedding?

There is plenty of parking at both the church and the reception venue if you would like to drive.&nbsp; The hotels are only a short taxi/rideshare from the reception in case you end up needing to leave your car overnight.&nbsp;However,&nbsp; we want our friends and family to party it up on the dance floor with us, and we know that for many people that involves drinking. To make it easier for guests to safely enjoy their evenings, we will be&nbsp;providing transportation from the hotel blocks,&nbsp;between the two venues, and back to the hotels again.&nbsp;

Georgia Aquarium

Georgia Aquarium offers its guests an experience like no other. Across six separate galleries, with more than 70 amazing habitats, 10 million gallons of water and thousands of species of marine animals, guests will marvel at, learn about and come to better understand such majestic aquatic animals as whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, beluga whales, sea otters, African penguins and thousands of species of exotic fish and other animals. -- Trip Advisor&nbsp;

Atlanta Botanic Gardens

Located on the north end of Piedmont Park, the Atlanta Botanic garden contains a spectacular array of plants and trees, beautiful walking trails, a tree-canopy walk, impressive waterscapes, incredible topiary creations of mythical creatures, and&nbsp;rare varieties of orchids.&nbsp;

National Center for Civil and Human Rights

The Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta is an engaging cultural attraction that connects The American Civil Rights Movement to today's Global Human Rights Movements. The Center features four immersive and thought-provoking exhibit spaces, including a continually rotating gallery of items from The Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection, where visitors can view the personal papers and items of Dr. King.You can learn more and plan your visit <a href="https://www.civilandhumanrights.org/" target="_blank">here</a>.

Ponce City Market

Located in the historic Sears, Robucks & Co building in Atlanta, Ponce City Market hosts a large Central Food Hall with a variety of&nbsp;cuisines and fun desserts. Up on the roof, you can find mini-golf, boardwalk games, more food, and fancy cocktails, all with amazing views of downtown. This is the place to be for sunset happy hours. Chattahoochee River Parks

The Chattahoochee River runs through Northern Georgia and its path through Roswell and Marietta offers many opportunities to explore nature.&nbsp;

Chattahoochee Nature Center: a series of short (&lt;0.5&nbsp; miles), flat trails, including a boardwalk out onto the river and specialty exhibits. Great for a short excursion with kids! Learn more <a href="https://www.chattnaturecenter.org/" target="_blank">here</a>.



Roswell Mill Waterfall & Vickery Creek trails: you might get a sneak peak of the reception venue if you come here! The waterfall itself is only a short hike from the parking lot, but several miles of trails extend beyond it. "Shooting the Hooch": this is local slang for rafting or tubing along the Chattahoochee River. ShootTheHooch is a company that provides rafts, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards for those who are interested in spending some time on the water. Their <a href="https://shootthehooch.com/" target="_blank">website</a> provides additional information and their locations - the Riverside Rd location is the one closest to our hotel blocks!

Atlanta Beltline

If you prefer to be outdoors but want to head into Atlanta, the Beltline may be for you. An ongoing project, the Beltline has converted old railway lines into pedestrian friendly paths that will eventually create a 22 mile loop around the center of the city. Currently the project contains 5 open trails and seven parks, many of which are adjacent to bustling commercial areas.&nbsp;

The first completed section was the Eastside Trail, which runs for 3 miles from the southern tip of Piedmont Park down past the beautiful Historic Fourth Ward Park, crosses the Freedom Park trail (which to the east leads&nbsp;to the Jimmy Carter Predisential Library and Museum), and passes by Krog Street Market. A great way to see a few different Atlanta neighborhoods, you can learn more and plan your visit <a href="https://beltline.org/explore-atlanta-beltline-trails/eastside-trail/" target="_blank">here</a>! 

If you want to feel like you've escaped the city, the Northside Trail (on the North side of the city, slightly closer to the hotels) offers more scenic beauty on a 1-mile segment that connects Atlanta Memorial Park to Admore Park and passes alongside the Bobby Jones Golf Course. Downtown Historic Roswell

We anticipate that some of our out-of-town guests will want to stay close to the wedding hotels over the weekend. Downtown Roswell has several excellent restaurants and some fun bars, as well as a robust art gallery scene. Rowell Farmers & Artisans Market

The name says it all! This local market happens on Saturday mornings between 8am and 12 noon and is located behind Roswell&nbsp;City Hall at 38 Hill St. Stop by for local produce, snacks, and crafts.&nbsp;

The Roswell area has several great options for dining. Things to Do 1

Jenn is Catherine’s younger sister, and anyone who knew them as small children probably remembers their constant bickering more than any sense of affection. Lucky for them (and their parents), they outgrew that phase, especially after one overlapping year at Dartmouth and two more in the NYC metro area. A lover of all things dog- and food-related (she’s an expert gluten-free chef!), Jenn works at a hedge fund and lives in Stamford, CT.

Jennifer Armstrong

Adam and Ben first met in February of 1993, when Adam was brought home from the hospital! Early on, they bonded over their common love of Nickelodeon cartoons (especially Hey Arnold!), and as the years went by they attended music camp together&nbsp;and developed a wide range of shared interests, including comedy, Yankees baseball, and all things music! After a year in Oxford, UK, Adam now lives in Brooklyn.



Adam Asher

Emily and Catherine met freshman year of college as members the of Dartmouth swim team; they lived in the same dorm complex that year and bonded over their 5am walks to the pool and weekly episodes of House, M.D. Emily is a nature-loving biologist who lives in practically-Canada, Washington with her husband Aaron, a menagerie of animals, and daughter Enna.

Bobby and Ben first met in November of 1988, when Ben was brought home from the hospital! In the early 90s, they woke up together at 6am on Saturdays to watch Captain Planet on TBS, and a decade later, they woke up together at 6am on Saturdays for Cross Country and Track & Field invitational meets! Bobby lives in New York City, where he can often be seen leading group runs in Van Cortlandt or Central Park.

Bobby Asher

Ben and Aditya met in 7th grade, and their friendship continued to grow over the years. They developed a healthy competition on Spanish tests in 8th grade, and in high school continued that healthy competition as throwers on the Track team, and as two of the consistently slowest runners on the Cross Country team. They stayed close throughout the years, even with Aditya on the West Coast for almost a decade! Aditya now lives in New York City, where he works as a software engineering manager.

Aditya Acharya

Nora and Catherine have been friends since their IB days at Campbell HS, where they were both overachievers. Catherine can thank Nora for teaching her exactly one sentence in Finnish, being her main RunKeeper support network during various training plans, and being the friend who is most likely to pop into town for the weekend. Nora is a consultant and lives in Chicago, a city that she loves, with her husband&nbsp;Adam and their pup Bowie.



Nora Willgren

Molly and Catherine met when Molly moved to Georgia at the end of 6th grade, and the two shared many adolescent adventures, including youth group spring break trips to Mexico. As adults, they’ve continued to be travel buddies, exploring Machu Picchu and road tripping through Tennessee and Kentucky. Molly is an elementary school teacher and triathlete who now lives in&nbsp;Chattanooga, TN&nbsp;after four years in the Middle East.

Molly McDaniel

Ben and Yan met in 6th grade, and became friends in 7th grade as they connected over their appreciation for NBC comedies (which has continued to do this day). Their common interests range from music, to politics, to stand-up comedy, and they were lucky enough to overlap in the New York area for five years after college! Yan still lives in New York City, where he works in finance.

We have&nbsp;a block of rooms at the&nbsp;Holiday Inn for Thursday 8/29 - Monday 9/2 (or any subset of that!)&nbsp;at a rate of $103/night. The room rate includes parking, breakfast for 2 adults, and kids under 12&nbsp;eat breakfast for free!&nbsp;We recommend this hotel for anyone traveling with their kids, not only for the free breakfast, but also because&nbsp;this is where we will base the babysitter on the evening of the wedding!This hotel&nbsp;has a restaurant/lounge, a fitness center, and a pool and&nbsp;is just down the block from the DoubleTree and right next door to the Best Western. Holiday Inn Atlanta/Roswell

Shuttles will pick up in two locations:&nbsp;in front of the DoubleTree, and in the shared parking lot of the Holiday Inn/Best Western.&nbsp;

Shuttles will pick guests up&nbsp;starting at 4:30pm, departing no later than 4:45pm and will take guests from Sandy Springs Christian Church to Ivy Hall following the ceremony.&nbsp;





Between 7:30 and 10:30pm,&nbsp;shuttles&nbsp;will depart from Ivy Hall every 30 minutes. All shuttles will stop at all hotels.&nbsp;





Between 11 and 11:30pm, shuttles will run between Ivy Hall, the After Party location, and the hotels.&nbsp;





Shuttles will continue to run between the After Party and the hotels until 2:00am.&nbsp;

For our budget-minded friends, we've booked a block of rooms at the Best Western Plus for $95/night&nbsp;between Friday 8/30 and Tuesday 9/3 (or any subset of that!).&nbsp;This hotel is newly renovated and, like the others, includes a lounge, gym, and pool; additionally, breakfast is included. Best Western Plus Roswell/Alpharetta

For those who love highly functional&nbsp;public transit, MARTA may be a bit of a disappointment. While we are planning the wedding activities to be accessible by MARTA, shuttles, or short ride shares&nbsp;(i.e. Uber or Lyft), we expect many of our guests&nbsp;may want to rent a car to explore in and around the city.&nbsp;

MARTA vs. Rental Cars

There are a&nbsp;limited number of rooms available in our hotel block for this hotel&nbsp;for the evenings of Thursday 8/30 - Monday 9/2. The discounted rate is $119/night and includes breakfast for two guests. If our hotel block is full, this hotel is still a great option&nbsp;for guests who don't mind splurging a little. Typical&nbsp;rates are between $160 and $180/night. We strongly recommend calling the front desk (770-992-9600) and using our group code (AAW) to ensure that your room is associated with our block, even if there are no discounted rooms available.&nbsp; This hotel has a restaurant/lounge, a fitness center, a small pool, and&nbsp;a complimentary shuttle that can take you anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel (Historic Roswell is within this radius) between the hours of 7am and 12am.
