Stafford v. Fredericksburg

While our wedding will take place in Stafford, VA, at the Leonard family farm, we highly recommend staying in nearby Fredericksburg. This is where we live, and we’re so excited to share it with our friends and family! Fredericksburg is a charming and walkable city filled with vibrant history (The Battle of Fredericksburg, anyone?), unique shopping (an antique capital of the US), and plenty of sightseeing opportunities (Georgie Washington's childhood home). Stroll through the historic downtown streets, explore local boutiques, and visit landmarks that tell the story of our nation’s past. You’ll also find an incredible selection of restaurants, breweries, and entertainment options to enjoy during your stay. For those without cars, don’t worry—Fredericksburg is very easy to navigate on foot. Plus, we will provide a shuttle to and from the wedding venue so you can relax and enjoy the celebration without the hassle of driving. We can’t wait for you to experience all that we love about FXBG!

Getting to Fredericksburg, VA

If you’re flying in for the celebration, we recommend flying into Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, D.C. From there, taking the train is an easy and scenic way to reach Fredericksburg. Step-by-Step Instructions: Fly into Reagan National Airport (DCA):Reagan National is the closest major airport to Fredericksburg and offers a direct connection to train services. Getting to the Train Station from DCA:After landing, follow signs to the Washington Metro (Metrorail).Purchase a SmarTrip card or use a contactless payment option to ride the Metro.Take the Yellow Line train (towards Huntington) and exit at the King Street-Old Town Station in Alexandria. Walk to Alexandria Union Station:From the King Street Metro stop, it’s a short 2-minute walk to Alexandria Union Station (the train station). Follow signs or use your phone’s navigation to find your way. Take the Train to Fredericksburg:At Alexandria Union Station, board an Amtrak train or the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) heading south to Fredericksburg.Amtrak: Offers multiple daily trains with reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.VRE: A commuter train with limited weekday schedules (no weekend service). Tickets are available at the station or via the VRE mobile app. Important Note About Train SchedulesIf you’re planning to take the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) from Alexandria to Fredericksburg, please note:The VRE operates on weekday commuter schedules only.Morning trains run from Fredericksburg northbound to Washington, D.C., passing through Alexandria.Evening trains run from Washington, D.C., southbound to Fredericksburg, passing through Alexandria.Because of this schedule, it’s best to:Fly into DCA in the evening to catch a southbound VRE train to Fredericksburg.Fly out of DCA in the morning after taking a northbound VRE train from Fredericksburg. For weekend travel or more flexibility, we recommend using Amtrak, which runs throughout the day and is available 7 days a week. Arriving in Fredericksburg:Once you arrive at the Fredericksburg train station, it’s a short walk or ride to downtown accommodations. Ride-share options like Uber or Lyft are available.

Your presence truly means the world to us.﻿We know many of you are traveling to be with us, and that’s the greatest gift we could ask for. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. After several years of living together, we’ve created a home we love and have what we need when it comes to “things.” This past year has been full of travel and celebration—we’ve had the joy of witnessing friends say “I do” in Italy, Boulder, and San Diego (and stole photos in front of all their arbors). So instead of planning a big honeymoon, we’re focusing on something that feels true to us in this season: slowing down, being present, and continuing to fill our lives with meaningful experiences. Originally, we planned to marry under the broad arms of a beloved old oak tree, but it collapsed in a recent storm. We’re heartbroken, but also dreaming of a new way to carry it forward: transforming the wood into pieces of heirloom furniture, a dining table to gather loved ones around, and a pair of rocking chairs for our future front porch. If you’d like to help us toast to what’s next, we’ve created a fund to support two things close to our hearts: future adventures and the tree that was meant to hold our vows. Every bit helps us build a life rooted in connection, intention, and love. Thank you for being part of this beginning.
