We both grew up in New Mexico—Dakota in Santa Fe, where he graduated from Capital High School and later earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from New Mexico State University, and Catherine in Rio Rancho, where she attended Rio Rancho High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University.

Our friendship love story began in Kansas City in 2017, soon after Catherine reported to her second duty station. We started as adventure buddies, hitting it off immediately at a vintage arcade, and we’ve never really stopped staying in touch since.

In 2023, we started spending much more time together—attending Sunday church services, sharing wonderful moments learning, and simply enjoying each other’s company. One sunny afternoon, Dakota proudly showed Catherine his salsa garden and picked the season’s very first perfect green jalapeño. As he handed it to her and said, “Here you go—it’s the first of the season, just for you,” Catherine’s heart literally skipped a beat.

That small, tender moment changed everything. We quickly became more than friends. On New Year’s Eve, after laughing through a comedy show, we shared our first kiss.

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, we celebrated a small, heartfelt Biblical ceremony in Kansas City with our pastor and two dear witnesses. Then, in October 2025, we were legally married in a gathering at Catherine’s father’s home in Tijeras, New Mexico.

For now, we’re happily settling in Kansas City with our two cats, building our beautiful, busy life together.
