Little did Catie know that going to play pick up Ultimate Frisbee in Miller Park was where she would find THE ONE. She had gone to play one day in early February which was when she first met Shelby. She didn't return to play again until mid April. Shelby had been playing with this group for about a year. On April 19th 2017 Shelby sent Catie a "Happy Birthday" Facebook message and wished her a "blessed day". They began chatting more and Shelby asked Catie to go to dinner with him that upcoming Saturday. Catie had already had plans to serve at St Benedict's Shelter but said they could meet up afterward for dinner. Shelby then surprised her by asking if he could come and serve with her. The rest is history.

Saturday morning July 21st 2018 Catie, Shelby, and Zoe decided to go on a hike in Palo Duro State Park. They left around 8 in the morning to beat the heat. After hiking for a bit on the Juniper River trail, dodging mountain bikers, and burning up they decided to head back to the car to head back to Lubbock to get a burger. Shelby kept stopping and looking over the edge of the cliff at the greenery near the river. He finally said, "I have to ask you something" and got down on one knee and asked Catie to marry him. She immediately said "Yes!"
