Sliding Into Her DMs…

It was mid 2021 when Ken first reached out to Chanel on Facebook. He was working within the challenging circumstances in a hospital setting amid Covid while being involved in ministry. And Chanel was working within the leadership capacity in the government sector while leading single moms ministry at her home church. Earlier that year both eagerly started their businesses. Kenrick established Breath 4 Life geared towards providing certified CPR services to the community and Chanel had just published her first 2 books and established Esther’s Daughters LLC focusing on providing faith-based for single moms and organizations who serve them. Both joined a social media group meant for Black entrepreneurs in the LA area. Ken slid into Chanel's DM asking about business. DMs between the two went on for several months. A couple days after Chanel and her son returned from a mission trip to Ghana, Ken slid into her DM for that "excuse me Miss moment!" Ken asked to take Chanel out for a night on the town to celebrate her birthday...and it's been a celebration ever since...

When I met Chanel, I knew she was a special woman. Conversation was good and I was intrigued. We were in similar circles. I knew she was about her business and that was a prime opportunity to start a conversation. I was interested in learning more about her business, Esther's Daughters LLC, but in the back of my mind, I was trying to figure out a way to get to know her! I thought to myself, she's intelligent, she's cute, and was amazed at how she was doing all these amazing things in business, ministry, career, education, all while being a single mom. It blew my mind, but what most amazed me about her was that she was a woman of God. She's a woman that prays. Our schedules were busy so my initial plans for an evening of dinner and dancing were interrupted so we agreed to meet at a local restaurant. Got there a few minutes before her. She turned that corner and I saw this smile that lit up the room. Talked for hours that we closed down the restaurant, then went next door to another restaurant where we kept the conversation going. Hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and I fell in LOVE. Fell in love with her character, fell in love with her being true to herself, and I knew that she was meant to be in my life for the rest of my life. I prayed for wisdom to discern the right time to ask Chanel to marry me. A couple months shy of our 2nd anniversary, I decided to take my Baby to my home country of Belize, where her father was born as well, to celebrate her birthday. Her family and I planned a surprise celebration at our favorite restaurant on the beach. And on her birthday, July 26, I woke up early that morning to talk with God. Later that afternoon, we arrived at the restaurant and it was at that moment, I knew it was the right time. It was a stillness and a peace that surpassed all understanding. I snuck away and called her parents, Marvin &amp; Rosalyn. Chanel's father picked up and I asked for his blessing to ask his daughter for her hand in marriage. He said yes and pronounced a blessing over us, our marriage, and our family. When I returned to Chanel in the main area of the restaurant, in front of family, I kneeled before her and asked Chanel to be my wife.
