Is there a dress code?
For the women, we ask that dresses are at least mid-calf in length, no slits, with no cleavage or shoulders exposed.
For the men, 3 piece-suits are appropriate. Out of respect for the Eucharist, we ask that dress shirts be buttoned to the second button or higher, and that shorts not be worn.
Attire for both parties should be modest and well-fitted, without being overly tight or revealing.
Children are encouraged to wear their Sunday best attire.
Are children welcome to attend?
Yes! Children are invited to attend both the Nuptial Mass and reception.
What Should I expect at a Catholic Nuptial Mass?
In the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the priest, in the person of Jesus Christ, re-offers Jesus Christ's body and blood of the Crucifixion to God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit. This offering was ordained at the Last Supper when Jesus spoke the words that transformed the bread into His Body and the wine into His Blood.
During the Mass, the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is celebrated, which Jesus Christ instituted by Jesus to sanctify the union of a Christian man and woman in marriage.
If you’ve never attended a Catholic Mass before, here’s what you can expect: The Mass includes prayers, hymns, scripture readings, and the celebration of the Eucharist (Holy Communion). The congregation participates by responding to prayers, standing, kneeling, and singing. The priest will lead the Mass, and the couple will exchange their vows during the ceremony. At Communion, Catholics believe in receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. Guests are welcome to observe, and you may also remain seated during this part if you are not Catholic or do not wish to receive Communion.
Can I receive the Eucharist at Mass?
To receive Holy Communion worthily, you must be a baptized Catholic, free from mortal sin, and adhere to the prescribed fast of no food or drink (except water) for one hour before receiving. Receiving Communion unworthily, while in a state of mortal sin, constitutes a grave sin known as sacrilege (1 Corinthians 11:27-29).
