Once upon a time in Edmonton, Curtis and Chantel’s love story began with the help of their friends, Kim and Dale. Kim and Dale had always admired Curtis and Chantel’s shared love of the outdoors and knew they were destined for one another.


Their paths had crossed before, but it wasnt until early April 2021 that they reunited, taking a leisurely stroll around OBrien Lake. They shared stories about their dreams and soon realized that their aspirations were quite similar.


Their first significant adventure as a couple was a camping trip to Jasper, Chantel’s puppy Hazel in tow. Curtis, always up for a challenge, dared Chantel to practically free solo a mountain. “A Gr.4 teacher wouldnt want to do that?” he teased. Chantel accepted the dare and they conquered the climb together. Comparatively, the trail marked difficult was a breeze on the way down the mountain!


From that moment on, their love grew amidst breathtaking scenery and amazing adventures. They found joy in kayaking down rushing rivers, hiking through dense forests, and even cliff jumping into deep basins. One unforgettable day, they also had the opportunity to rescue a baby elk stuck in mud!


As they spent time outdoors, Chantel found her limits being pushed, but Curtis was always there to support and encourage her. On the other hand, Curtis admired Chantels determination and her willingness to take on challenges with him.


As their relationship progressed, they decided to take some significant steps as a couple. After living together in Chantel’s duplex for just shy of a year, they purchased an acreage in September 2022. Days were spent working fulltime jobs to come home to hours of renovating. Their relationship was tested and only grew stronger.


Knowing a break was well-deserved, Chantel booked a trip to Florida in April, 2023. However, as fate would have it, Curtis had sprained his ankle before the trip. Unfazed by the injury, he wore a medical boot through the airport and during their entire adventure at Universal Studios. He handled it all with a smile, never complaining, and Chantel admired his positive spirit. Little did Chantel know, this trip was exactly what Curtis had in mind too. Each day passed, and as they explored the theme parks, attended a concert and enjoyed the Florida sun, the excitement built, but Curtis held his secret close. On the last day of their unforgettable trip, Curtis and Chantel found themselves at an enchanting outdoor venue called Boxi Park. The setting was idyllic, with beach volleyball, live music filling the air, and the aroma of delectable street food surrounding them. The icing on the cake was the adorable litters of puppies that were being paraded around in wagons. As they savored the experience, thunder ominously rolled in, signaling the approach of a sudden storm. Curtis suggested they head back to the hotel. Little did Chantel know that this decision was leading them to the most memorable moment of their lives. On their way back to the hotel, Curtis steered them towards a beautiful spot. They sat down under a palm tree in the sculpture garden next to the hotel. The sun had gone down and the purple lights added the perfect amount of ambience. Curtis got down on one knee, took Chantel’s hand and asked her to marry him. Overwhelmed with disbelief and joy, she managed to nod, yes! With the raindrops dancing around them, Curtis slipped a stunning ring onto Chantel’s finger. They went up to their room, ordered champagne to have a toast on the balcony as they watched sheet lightning in the distance and called to share the exciting news with their family!


As Curtis and Chantel continue their journey together, they realized that love, like adventure, sometimes moves fast and takes you to unexpected places. And so, their story continues to unfold, with many more chapters yet to be written as they explore the world and each others hearts with the same spirit of adventure that had brought them together in the first place.
