If you’re staying a few days before or after the wedding, there’s plenty to see (and eat!) around Figueres and the beautiful Empordà region. We’ve put together a few of our favourite spots and ideas.
A Bit of Culture
Figueres is best known as the birthplace of Salvador Dalí, and his Dalí Theatre-Museum is absolutely worth a visit. It’s completely surreal — even people who aren’t “museum types” end up loving it. Right next door is the Dalí Jewels Exhibition, a small but fascinating collection of jewellery designed by the artist himself.
If you fancy something a little more traditional, the Empordà Museum is also nearby and gives a great sense of the region’s history and art scene.
Food and Wine (Always a Good Idea)
The Empordà area is full of vineyards, and many offer tastings and tours. Our recommendations are La Vinyeta and Mas Llunes. Both are beautiful spots for a relaxed afternoon with a glass (or two) of local wine.
Cute Towns and Day Trips
There are lots of lovely little places nearby if you fancy exploring.
Peralada: a tiny medieval village with a fairytale castle, vineyards, and even a casino.
Cadaqués: a gorgeous whitewashed coastal town about an hour away.
Besalú: a stunning old town with cobbled streets and an ancient stone bridge that looks straight out of a film.
Beaches and Sunshine
The Costa Brava is really close, about 30–40 minutes away, and it’s full of crystal-clear coves and seaside towns.
We especially recommend:
Roses: a lively beach town with great seafood restaurants.
Empuriabrava: known for its canals and sailing.
L’Escala: smaller and quieter, perfect for a swim and a long lunch by the sea.
