Our story is a bit different from most. We didn’t experience the typical honeymoon phase when we first began our relationship, nor did we ease into life’s challenges slowly, as we’d imagined we would one day face—far in the future.

Just a few short months into our relationship, life hit us hard with the loss of Charity’s best friend and dear cousin. It was 3 a.m. when Cody first heard the devastating news. Without hesitation, he became Charity’s rock. For nights on end, he held her when she felt helpless, spoke words of life over her, and prayed for hours, offering peace in the midst of her anguish. In those dark days, Cody showed up in ways no one could have asked for. He brought strength when she couldn’t stand, gentleness to hold her where she was, and a peace that only comes from above. During the months of grief that followed, Cody revealed exactly who he was—someone who would stand by her side through any storm, for the rest of their lives together.

Then, just six months later, another storm came and Charity’s sister went on to be with Jesus. And once again, Cody showed up. He held her, carried her through the pain, and spoke God's love over her.

Isn’t that just like God? To bring people into our lives exactly when we need them—even before we know we need them. To turn brokenness into beauty. To unite two people from completely different walks of life, and carry them through trials, together. From the very beginning, it felt like it was meant to be—not because of anything we had done, but by the gracious hand of God. Without Him, April 11 would mean nothing of significance to us.
