Getting to Vejer de la Frontera

Our wedding takes place at the beautiful white mountain village of Vejer de la Frontera in Cadiz, south of Andalucia. Approximate distances and driving times for the closest airports below. Heads-up: Even though Gibraltar Airport is the closest option for UK - Spain flights, we’d recommend flying into Seville Airport instead. There’s no border crossing to deal with (the Gibraltar–Spain border can sometimes cause delays), and Gibraltar flights can occasionally be disrupted by strong winds. Seville is a smooth, straightforward option with a reliable drive straight to Vejer. Jerez de la Frontera is 47 miles (55 mins) from Vejer de la Frontera. Gibraltar airport is 52 miles (1hr 21 mins) from Vejer de la Frontera. Seville airport is 103 miles (1hr 41 mins) from Vejer de la Frontera. Malaga airport is 120 miles (2 hr 36 mins) from Vejer de la Frontera. Please note Gibraltar involves a border crossing. To note:• Allow plenty of time for the car pick up, all can have long queues and delays.• Be prepared to be told you need to pay extra for insurance, this is standard. The choice is yours.• The main driver will need to have a credit card (and some will not accept Amex e.g. Goldcar) and full driving license with them.

Hotels & Accomodation

Please stay in Vejer de la Frontera (i.e. in town, not outside of town). This will make your lives easier as that is where the welcome drinks are held and where the transport pick up / drop off points will be for the wedding and BBQ. Vejer de la Frontera offers a variety of charming accommodations - we have listed a few hotels below in an attempt to be somewhat helpful, but there are many more hotels dotted around the town, if you find something else that tickles your pickle. Also check out Air BnB which also lists cute apartments.

Probably the best option if anyone needs to bring their kids (although, please do note - no children on the wedding day, soz). Hotel La Casa del Califa is a beloved boutique hotel in the heart of Vejer de la Frontera, known for its rich Moorish heritage and timeless charm. Set within a labyrinth of historic buildings, it offers uniquely styled rooms, lush inner courtyards, and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views over the countryside. Guests especially love the iconic Jardín del Califa restaurant, serving up renowned Moroccan-Andalusian cuisine. With its warm, authentic atmosphere and centuries-old character, La Casa del Califa is perfect for travelers seeking history, romance, and unforgettable local flavor.

Las Palmeras del Califa is a serene boutique hideaway with just seven uniquely styled rooms, set within a beautifully restored 16th-century merchant’s house in the heart of Vejer de la Frontera. Surrounded by lush gardens and centered around a tranquil courtyard pool, it offers an intimate escape blending Andalusian charm with Moorish architectural details. As part of the renowned Califa group, guests enjoy access to the famous Jardín del Califa restaurant nearby.

Charming wine spot in the middle of town - perfect for a couple of glasses before dinner or a mid-afternoon unwind.

La Casa Del Califa's rooftop bar, known as La Teteria del Califa, is a panaromic terrace with great views over the town. Perfect for sunset, but it does get busy so get there early!

Restaurants slightly out of town

Well worth the trip if you can! If not, we have listed below our favourite spots in the middle of town below.

Nestled in the verdant hamlet of Santa Lucia, 5 minutes outside of Vejer de la Frontera. Specialising in wood-fired grilling, this place has an extensive selection of meats, as well as a really good wine list. It's a very popular place - so reservations are required. Open every for lunch and dinner, except Wednesday (when it is closed).

Restaurante la Castillería

A hidden gem nestled in the tranquil countryside of La Muela, just 15 mins outside of Vejer de la Frontera. Booking recommended. Opening times:Wednesday: 8–11 PMThursday: 8–11 PMFriday: 8–11 PMSaturday: 1–4 PM, 8–11 PMSunday: 1–4 PM

Recommended restaurants - In Town

Ultra modern cooking (for Vejer). Recommended in the Michelin Guide. We had a great meal! Definitely recommend doing dinner here.

Restaurante • Elmuro

Family-run fish restaurant, just steps from the town's iconic church. Famous for its tuna. Open daily for lunch and dinner (except Tuesdays, when it's closed).

We think this is probably the best place for coffee. It's located on the promenade (Calle de la Corredera) and also does a good breakfast - lots of options.

Cafetería The Singular Coffee - Desayunos y Brunch en Vejer

Patrick didn't appreciate this spot as much as I did - but this would be my top choice for brekkie! Really small and cute, no one can speak English, but the food was delightful. Go here!
