One Sunday afternoon October 2024, a seat opened up in the bustling coffeeshop Tryst at a large shared table. Laptops with customers typing furiously, gossiping friends sipping tea, and stacks of paper spread haphazardly on the table, provided the perfect environment for a conversation to spark between two people planning lectures on the changing geopolitical scene. Alexander and Charlotte spent the afternoon enmeshed in deep conversations over a variety of topics with a curiosity surrounding one another's perspectives. Over the next few days the pair made an effort to see one another again. Charlotte attended a discussion at the German American Institute that Alexander had shared with her and was the key speaker at. Alexander asked Charlotte to grab drinks the last night he was there and she recommended Fitzgeralds in Georgetown. A friendship had formed and as they bid addieu it was unclear what would come from the week. Over the next couple weeks, they became pen-pal via What'sApp as they exchanged papers and thoughts about the precarious position of the transatlantic alliance. Until one day, instead of typing essays to one another, they decided to speak on the phone instead. Hours passed as they spoke on the phone over topics that were initially professional and academic but which deepened into more personal subjects. The following year, Alexander returned to DC on April 12, his birthday, which Charlotte insisted they celebrate! Upon seeing each other in person half a year after they met, they greeted one another with a friendly hug as the anticipation for what they had been waiting for, came to fruition. Over a romantic dinner at Perry's, the conversation softened and revealed that their feelings had developed over the correspondence they had shared. After spending all possible time together they could over that week in April, it became clear that the pair intended to see what could emerge from their initial chance encounter in Tryst. In May, Alexander came to Charlotte's graduation from Georgetown University for her master's degree, which was a significant milestone and showed the deep sincerity of Alexander's intent. Charlotte reciprocated by flying to Brussels, Belgium for the first time the following month. The summer of 2025 was filled with transatlantic trips as the two sought to maximize the time they spent together. Following 2 months apart since they had begun seeing one another from the beginning of August to the end of October, Charlotte and Alexander were finally able to reunite. Although they had physically been separated by an ocean, their love had grown and the tenderness for one another expanded. Not even the Atlantic Ocean could interfere with their relationship and on October 31, 2025, Alexander asked Charlotte to be his wife. After a joyful acceptance, the two began preparing for the changes ahead. On June 29, 2026, Alexander and Charlotte intend to take their vows in the company of friends and family in Belgium before embarking upon their next adventure of building a life together.

The most convenient city to Castle Moerkerke is Bruges, which is also known as the "Venice of the North." This town offers a variety of hotels that we encourage you to explore. Hotel Montanus is highly recommended and currently is available Sunday and Monday. Grand Hotel Casselbergh is also a great option!
