John and Chaylea have met sporadically throughout childhood. Chaylea went to the same church as Johns Aunt, Uncle and cousins.

On May 21st, 2023 Chaylea's dad and his band Furious George, had a gig at Stewards of the land in Northford where some other friends of the Finns including Mariah (Johns Cousin) was. She invited Matt and Michelle (Johns oldest brother and sister in-law) to join us and listen to music while enjoying some local beer. Matt and Michelle ended up showing up with John. John was nervous the moment he laid eyes on Chaylea but did not show it at all. Chaylea was able to get Johns number and later that week John was able to muster up the courage to send her a text about recommendations for things to do in Nashville as he was leaving for his brother Matt's bachelor party.

While John was on his trip all the guys found out he had been texting Chaylea and talking with her. One friend had asked John "Why do you keep smiling at your phone?"

When John got home, he decided to take Chaylea out on their first official date and the rest is history.
