If you haven't heard the story of how me met, then I'm surprised because it is all Joey talks about lol.
Here you'll hear Joey's version of events on how we met because I love hearing it every single time he brings it up.
We met through her Uncle Kanani, who at the time I was the boss of. One Sunday her uncle picked me up from the airport on Lāna'i, as he wanted to stay back over the weekend and look for his sister. We got to the house, Cheleigh's uncle parked and insisted that I come inside and meet his sister (Cheleighs mom) and the ohana. After a little convincing, I went inside and the first thing that Cheleigh's parents asked me was if I wanted a beer and of course I won't give up on free beer. So when it came down to the last beer (mind you, it was a 12 pack) Cheleigh came out of her room and saw me with HER LAST BEER, saw all the empty bottles, looked at me, looked at her parents and uncle, then right back at me. She turned around and slammed her room door shut as a sign of anger. After that she didn't want to talk to me for months.
Eventually after me coming around the house to just wala'au and hang out with her parents, she gave in and then we went on our first date to the movies the night after Halloween. We went to watch The Joker (junk movie for a first date) she bought the tickets and I bought myself a coffee and snacks. Weird combo right?! Once we found our seats, the movie started and there was no conversation at all. I tried touching her hand but was in her jacket the whole time. FAIL! But once the movie was pau, we both looked at each other and was like "What did we even watch". Then from there we were kicked out the theater for staying past the credits. We talked more in the parking lot then realized it was way past 11pm. I told her I was going walk home, she insisted giving me a ride though I never like cause how shame one wahine gotta take me home.
After much back and forth, I jumped in her 1992 Isuzu Trooper and said something along the lines of "Wow, I haven't been in one of these since I was 10 years old". Brah, the look I got from her and the nerve of her for tell me to grab my ID out cause when I told her my age she never like believe me at all. Mind you I was only 26 and she thought I was 33 years old! EEEERRRRRRR
The rest is history and I couldn't ask for a better spouse to have in this life! We are living life and growing to be the best version of ourselves for each other and our little ohana.
