Designed by Moshe Safdie, the same architect behind the famed Sydney Opera House, the Kaufman Center is one of the newest additions to the Kansas City skyline and, during non-Covid times, is the epicenter of Kansas City's world class fine arts scene. While a show may not be on the agenda during this visit, located in the heart of downtown, it's worth a stop on a tour through the city.
Plus Zac and Chelsea love a date night enjoying a show together at this beautiful venue. From seeing one of our favorite musicians, Ben Folds with the KC Symphony, The Shining Opera, or The Wizard of Oz Ballet you will often find us here!
The Original Peanut! Before Prohibition was repealed, in December of 1933, The Peanut existed as a speakeasy. This place is the spot for enormous buffalo wings and the very best BLT in KC (perhaps in all of America). There are several locations all over the metro but the Original is conveniently located near the Plaza.
Modeled after Kansas City's sister city, Seville, Spain, the Country Club Plaza was designed to be a marquee shopping location for the city. When it first opened in 1957, it was the first planned shopping community designed specifically with cars in mind. It remains the jewel of the city and a top attraction for locals and tourists alike, especially on Thanksgiving night for the "Plaza Lighting": More than 2 million Christmas lights are turned on marking the official start of the Christmas season.
Explore 15 blocks of shopping and dining in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri with 100 stores, 30 restaurants, and amazing architecture. It is also home to many of Kansas City's famed fountains.
Fun fact: Kansas City is home to the most working fountains of any city in the world. Behind Rome, it has the second most fountains period. The Plaza architecture and fountains contribute to Kansas City's nickname, "the Paris of the Plains".
Take a tour or just visit the tap room and store for some great Kansas City beer!
The National World War I Memorial is located blocks from the heart of downtown Kansas City. A point of pride for Kansas Citians, the Memorial and museum is a most stop-in spot for "history interested" visitors.
If you don't have time to tour the museum, put it on your driving tour for a spectacular view of the skyline.
This BBQ Bucket list hot spot is infamous! Several locations around the metro but the original located in a gas station feels the most authentic.
"In Kansas City, where barbecue is a way of life, it is understood that smoke has mystical properties. Smoke has the power to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. It can transform the least desirable cuts of meat into the most delectable. It can even transform a neighborhood corner gas station into one of the most popular restaurants on the planet."
Beautiful rooftop cocktail bar with perfect views of the Kansas City Skyline located on top of the Crossroads Hotel!
The 100 year old Union Station is a hub of culture, education, and entertainment. Union Station has something for everyone in the family.
Fun facts: They filmed the train station scenes for Pearl Harbor at KC's Union Station!
