How We Met
We were introduced through Lonnie's sister, Tasha. Lonnie living in Louisiana, while I lived in Texas, we didn't see each other much after our initial meeting. We parted ways only to see each other once again at his sister's wedding.
Throughout the years, though, we’d keep in touch on facebook. Inquiring of each other's lives and current interests. Neither one of us would ever acknowledge the attraction we had for one another. Eventually, our random conversations became more consistent as we began to develop a solid friendship. We'd talk for hours about our relationship with God and also what we wanted out of life. Before we knew it, months and months had past and we had uncovered the attraction that was once hidden.
Although it took several years and significant others, we could see that we belonged together. Our love story didn’t start with an initial spark but rather a slow burn to get to where we are today and we couldn’t be happier.
The Proposal
Christmas day 2020; the day both of our lives changed. I nervously arrived at Chene's parent's house for Christmas dinner. After arriving, I exchanged gifts with her family and then, with Chene. As Chene finished opening the last of her gift, she found a jewelry box in the bottom of her gift bag. She opened in and it was empty. Chene looked at me inquiring about the empty box. I was very confused and told her that it wasn't my box. I quickly texted her dad in worry of the surprise being ruined. Her dad said just to wait until dinner.
As we continued to wait on dinner, I grew more and more nervous. I began to overthink things. I love her so much and I know she loves me, but what if she doesn't want to marry me? What if she says no? I got up and walked outside to call my friend to pray with me and calm my nerves.
After coming back into the house, it was time for dinner. I was so nervous, I was hardly eating. Then, her dad made a Christmas toast. After, he signaled me to make my move. The time was as good as any!
I stood up and made a toast. My heart fluttering non stop as I began to pour my heart out to Chene. She was listening but she barely looked at me. My nerves were getting worse. I put my glass down, pulled the ring out of my pocket, and got down on my knee. She looked at me in complete shock. "Will you marry me?" I knew I surprised her. It felt like a lifetime before she answered, "Yes".
